Arts advocate Wally Cuchine retires, notable Nevadans give tribute

Wally Cuchine, a champion of the Arts, officially retired April 8 with a big send up from people from around the State, including proclamations of “Wally Cuchine Day” from Governor Brian Sandoval and Reno Mayor Bob Cashell at a concert at the Eureka Opera House with Ralph Cuda and the Dixieland Boys.

Milt Glick, University of Nevada, Reno president, dies

RENO — University of Nevada, Reno President Milton D. Glick died April 16, 2011. His sudden death in a Reno-area hospital following a stroke marks an incredible loss for his family, the University community and his many friends across the state of Nevada and the nation.

“Milt was a strong, extraordinarily respected leader and that, combined with his enduring belief in the power of higher education, set the stage for a remarkable legacy,” wrote University Provost Marc Johnson in an announcement to campus on Sunday morning.

Weather system may cause area streams and rivers to rise

Warming weather and a chance for rain may cause a rise in local streams and rivers but flooding isn't expected, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

A low pressure system is expected to bring rain to the Sierra and Western Nevada through Monday with snow levels around 8,500 feet before falling to 7,000 feet tomorrow night. About an inch of precipitation is expected in the Central and Northern Sierra and about a half inch in Western Nevada.

The final details are in place for the CSN/WNC game on Friday, April 22nd where the WNC Baseball program will give half of the ticket sales to the Memorial Funds each honoring the boys ("The Stephen Anderson Memorial Fund" and "The Keegan James Aiazzi Memorial Fund"). Bill From Secretary Of State Could Net State $11 Million

CARSON CITY — Changing one word in a law could save Nevada up to $11 million.
Secretary of State Ross Miller has sponsored a bill that would change who is exempt from Nevada’s business license fee.
Right now, home-based businesses making less than $27,000 a year in net earnings are exempt from the requirement.
Miller would change the language to “a natural person” rather than the current “person,” since businesses have used this as an excuse to declare themselves exempt.

Traffic accident on Airport Road, CareFlight called

Carson City paramedics have responded to a traffic accident in the 2100 block of Airport Road this afternoon. The accident happened at around 4 p.m. CareFlight was called and will pick up an injured person at the Carson City Airport, according to scanner traffic. No other details were available.

Nevada earthquake swarm a concern among seismologists

Nevada seismologists are keeping a close eye on an area southwest of Hawthorne where hundreds of earthquakes have been detected since Sunday, reports MyNews4.Com.
