The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, 2171 Hwy 50E, Carson City. CARSON CITY – Washoe County School District Superintendent Heath Morrison has been named a finalist for the 2012 National Superintendent of the Year.

The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) selected Morrison and three other superintendents as the four finalists in the national program.

CARSON CITY – Republican state Senator Michael Roberson said today he expects the GOP to retake control of the Senate in the 2012 general election, citing the quality of candidates recruited for two key Clark County races.

His optimism was countered by Sen. Mo Denis, D-Las Vegas, who said he is confident Democrats will maintain control of the Senate come Nov. 7.

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy arrested Cameron Matthew Haffey, 20, a stocker from Carson City, just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at the 1800 block of North Carson Street. Around 11 p.m. Tuesday officers were dispatched to a north Carson pharmacy on a report of a broken window. Camera footage showed a suspect in dark pants and a dark coat. Later on the same deputy was passing the pharmacy and spotted a suspect that matched that description.

UPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Fleeing felon Victor Mora Jr. was captured Wednesday night, at the Carson City Inn Motel in Carson City. Mora Jr. was captured by Douglas County Investigator Investigator Nadine Chrzanowski after receiving an anonymous tip regarding his whereabouts.
Mora Jr. is currently in custody at the DCSO Minden Jail, booked on an arrest warrant for lewdness with a minor.
Bail is set at $50,000.
Chrzanowski expresses her appreciation for assistance received from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office in assisting in the arrest.

Twenty percent of adults in Nevada said they smoke, but of those, 40 percent say they have considered quitting or would like to take action to quit smoking. The New Year brings a chance to act on the desire to quit. Why not make your health a priority this year and resolve to quit smoking?

Last year was the winter that never stopped, as we were still getting snowed on down here in the valley in late spring.

But this year is the winter that never started. No snow at all in December. Look up at the hills, and you might mistake it for September.
