The Carson City Audit Committee will be discussing the city's recently adopted strategic plan at its meeting today at 3 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center.

Also up for discussion will be the role of the city’s internal audit function including discussing goals and or objectives for the Audit Committee.

Two motorists from Texas died in a vehicle accident this morning on Highway 50 Alternate Route eight miles east of Fernley, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Renee J. Upchurch, 53, and Esther Garza, 59, from San Diego, Texas, died as a result of injuries from the accident, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen in a news release.

CARSON CITY – The U.S. Supreme Court today upheld Nevada’s ethics law in a case involving a Sparks city councilman. The opinion reversed a ruling by the Nevada Supreme Court.
The court, in an 11-page opinion written by Justice Antonin Scalia, said Nevada’s ethics law does not impinge on elected officials’ free speech rights by imposing limits on when they can vote on public matters because of conflicts of interest.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval today announced he has appointed Jeff Mohlenkamp as director of the Department of Administration effective July 11.
“I am pleased to announce that Jeff has agreed to join the team and lead the Department of Administration,” Sandoval said. “With more than 20 years of experience in state government, Jeff’s depth and breadth of experience across several agencies will be a strong asset to both my office and the department as a whole.”

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City and ACCtv will launch a new Friday Films Series on June 17. The family friendly fun begins with a five week series of short films for children. Admission is free. All showings are at 6:30pm in the Performance Hall.
