CARSON CITY — Senate Bill 140, which was passed this year during the 2011 Legislative Session and signed by Governor Brian Sandoval on June 17, goes into effect Oct. 1, 2011. This new law prohibits the use of a cellular phone or other handheld wireless communications device while operating a motor vehicle in certain circumstances. This is a primary law which means that officers do not need to observe a separate violation before initiating a traffic enforcement stop.

Carson City Deputies arrested one man and another male they think might be a juvenile for
allegedly taking two girls, 11 and 12 years old, from MIlls Park and sexually assaulting near the Carson River Tuesday night.
Enrique Lopez-Cervantes, 24, and another male whose identification showed he is 17, were arrested Wednesday night after detectives found them at Mills Park.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Carson City leaders addressed a packed banquet room at the Gold Dust West today to discuss the State of the City in a program put together by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Bob Crowell, Supervisor Shelly Aldean, Sheriff Kenny Furlong and School Board Chair Joanna Wilson each spoke to the crowd, and in general agreed that while these are challenging times, each made the case that things are going well and improving.
