Tom Armstrong has filed paperwork to run for Carson City Justice of the Peace Department 1. Armstrong currently holds this seat after being appointed by the Carson City Board of Supervisors last year.

Daniel Lane Holley, 39, has been found guilty of Assaulting a Police Officer stemming from a September 30, 2011 domestic disturbance at Holley’s west side Carson City residence.

Carson City Sheriff’s deputies were called to Holley’s residence at approximately 5:30 p.m. on September 30, 2011, after a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a loud disturbance coming from the house. Holley was gone when deputies arrived, but his girlfriend reported that Holley was very intoxicated and had been causing a disturbance at the house and in front of their infant child.

CARSON CITY – Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., said today he opposes the earmark process used to fund various projects around the country, advocating instead that state priorities for federal support go through a regular budget review.

“The problem with earmarks, when you look at them, it’s symbolic largely, because it’s not that it’s a huge part of the federal budget,” he said. “But a lot of them appear at the end with absolutely no hearings and they are in bills.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Donna Baltazar-Williams, 30, a Fallon resident, at around 9 p.m. Sunday night for gross misdemeanor battery on a public officer and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The Carson City Visitor and Convention Bureau has a contest on their Facebook page to win a night's stay at the Gold Dust West and two ticket to The Proscenium Players' "Dealt a Deadly Hand - Murder at the Carson City Casino Royale" murder mystery dinner theater.

Due to a project to complete a new north-south water transmission line on the east side of Carson City, Fairview Drive will be closed on Tuesday, January 10, and Wednesday, January 11, between E. Fifth Street and Butti Way. Detours will be marked.

There will be work at the following locations as a result of the Freeway Landscaping Project. No closures are expected, but traffic control will be in effect.

  • North Carson Street, in the vicinity of the freeway overpass.
  • Arrowhead Drive between N. Carson Street and Garnet Way.

The "found footage" film (whatever that means) "The Devil Inside" now playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City and elsewhere, is another exorcist adventure of sorts — mostly disparate parts.

A quick warning: if you suffer from motion sickness that is one good reason to skip this movie. Most of it was shot by handheld cameras, resulting in nausea in some cases, like mine. There are other good reasons to see "Hugo" or even Desi and Luci reruns instead.

Nevada Gaming Control Board has filed a complaint against AA Gaming and owner Alan H. Adams, which operates 17 slot machines at High Sierra Brewery, for failure to submit reports about changes in personnel at the establishment.

According to the complaint, AA Gaming did not submit required reports to the board from the time the company received its gaming license in June 2008 to present.

At the time the license was issued, the establishment was doing business as Doppelganger's, owned by Adams, former co-owner of the Carson Nugget.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested a 67-year-old Carson City woman at around noon Thursday at the 900 block of Beverly Drive.

During the lunch hour at the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center, a patron allegedly became annoyed with a fellow patron who was playing the piano and began yelling at him. Another patron stood to defend the piano player and was assaulted, being struck on the back and having her hair pulled. The defendant then assaulted the piano player as well. The arresting officer stated that he felt the defendant was intoxicated.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released its Nevada Gaming Abstract for 2011 today, which shows profits for Nevada casinos rose 16.4 percent. But even with the increase, overall casinos were almost $4 billion in the red.

For the Carson Valley area that includes Carson City, profits rose 222.4 percent.
