November 18 is a very significant date in the lives of several thousand hardy Alaskans. Those folks live in a unique location known as Barrow, Alaska, which is the northernmost community in the United States.
It is located in the Far North, on the edge of the Arctic Ocean, about 320 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
On November 18, the sun sets below the horizon at Barrow and it will not peek back up over the horizon until January 24 (weather permitting).
That’s more than two months without sunshine. Wow!

The attached eight photos are some of the oddities seen on a six week vacation trip to Italy in September and October, 2011.
That trip was taken by Bob and Lorraine Scholes of Dayton and Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City.
They traveled the length and width of Italy, plus being in the Island of Sicily and into Switzerland.

Carson City has issued a warning about a mountain lion that was seen today in the area of King Street and Ormsby Boulevard, near Carson Middle School.

"Please use caution and keep children and pets under close supervision at all times," the warning reads.

A jogger on Kings Canyon Road reported that a mountain lion was chasing after him, coming down the hill towards him. He reported crossing the street with vehicle traffic and the cat didn't follow.

If the lion is spotted, the city is asking you to call 911.

An injured mountain lion that had killed a dog near the Lakeview subdivision on the northwest side of Carson City over the weekend died after personnel from the Nevada Division of Wildlife shot it with a tranquilizer.

A resident reported that the big cat had killed a 14-year-old husky and was aggressively guarding the carcass when NDOW was called in, according the NDOW public information officer Chris Healy.

From November 15 through December 9, donate 2 cans of food and receive a voucher for a free flu shot or nasal spray vaccine, redeemable during our regularly scheduled immunization hours on Thursdays.

Douglas County Sheriff's deputies have located the vehicle belonging to a Gardnerville woman missing since Friday, and believe she was killed when it rolled down an embankment near the East Fork of the Carson River.

Loraine Bosch of Gardnerville was last reported to be heading to the FISH Thrift store in Carson City in her 1986 green Ford truck on Friday. That vehicle was located Monday night, heavily damaged with a body trapped inside.
