Storey County brothel owner Lance Gilman said Friday that he expects his Wild Horse Canyon Ranch brothel will be shuttered Tuesday by county officials for a violation of county ordinances that bar silent partners in brothel ownership.

Gilman, also the exclusive broker for the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County, admits to the violation but said his Mustang Ranch brothel and Wild Horse Saloon will be unaffected and will remain open.

A light agenda is in store for the Carson City Board of Supervisors at their next meeting on Nov. 17.

The board will hear first reading of an ordinance to allow billboards to be placed on existing and future transit shelters.

You might have seen this on in our live update box yesterday, the McKeen Motor Car on display at the Nevada State Railroad Museum has been nominated as an historical landmark by the National Historic Landmarks Committee. If the nomination is accepted, it will become to only piece of railroad equipment to secure a spot on the list of National Historic Landmarks. A weeklong effort by Carson City JobConnect has rounded up 521 job listings in the Carson City area. The effort's goal was to get more employers to list their job openings with the state's one-stop employment centers.

Friends of the Urban Forest have begun an effort to plant 10,000 trees in Carson City over the next five years. With a grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry's Urban Forest Fund, they kicked off the effort last weekend by planting 30 native cottonwood saplings in Fulstone Wetlands Park, off Northridge Drive and Russell Way.

The second annual Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Nov. 14 at Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City.

The evening is limited to 80 guests and features six courses paired with wine, prepared by Adele’s chef and owner, Charlie Abowd and guest chef Mylan Schmidt of Coco Dolce, Carson City.

Course sponsors at $1,000 and co-sponsorships at $500 are sought to offset the cost of meal preparation and other sponsorship opportunities will be available that evening.

I have a friend here in Carson City who will soon be losing her home. She's not the first, and probably not the last.

She bought her house back near the height of the boom. It's a fairly small, modest home, but fits her needs almost perfectly. At the time, her income from her sales job easily covered her mortgage and expenses. Times were good.

Local schools are celebrating Veterans Day this week. Yesterday, students at Seeliger Elementary talked to Sgt. Brent Peden via Skype from Afghanistan. Peden's daughter Makayla is a second-grader at the school. Today, Carson High School will have a Veterans Day ceremony in Senator Square at 10:30 a.m.

The Mallory Foundation has given $200,000 this month to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center to construct a triage lobby and remodel treatment areas in the hospital's emergency department. According to CTRMC, the money is “appreciated now more than ever” due to treatment provided to uninsured patients.

Investigators of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have identified a Carson City man suspected in two recent burglaries that occurred at the Village Launderette in Gardnerville.
On the evenings of Oct. 19 and Nov. 2, an adult male broke into several coin boxes of washing machines at the Village Launderette, stealing an undisclosed amount of currency.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office Investigator John Preston developed information that led him to believe 46 year-old Erick Leroy Rogers of Carson City was responsible.
