CARSON CITY – Legislative Democrats unveiled the elements of their highly anticipated tax plan today, saying they will work every day until the end of the session to craft a proposal that restores many of the cuts in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s budget without choking off a nascent economic recovery.

State GOP chairman Mark Amodei will now be free to make his final decision, probably to jump in.

Carson City firefighters are battling a brush fire at the Carson City dump tonight. Multiple engines responded to the initial call that came in shortly before 10 p.m. Additional fire personnel have been called in from outside the city, including a Lyon County fire engine.

Though the fire is reportedly burning, the size hasn't been determined or reported on, or whether there are structures threatened in the fire's path. The dump is located in the 3600 block of Flint Drive.

According to a firefighter on the scene via scanner dispatch, crews may be there for "an extended length of time."

Two bicycle events going on today at the Bike Habitat in Carson City, reports Jeff Moser at BikeCarson.com. From 3 to 6 p.m. is the Felt Bicycles demonstration. And at 6:30 p.m. is the Women's Bicycle Repair Clinic taught by Jennie Hamiter. Both events are FREE and open to the public. Bike Habitat is located off Topsy Lane next to Best Buy.

CARSON CITY — The recent earthquake activity around the Hawthorne area in Northern Nevada should act as a reminder to Nevadans to check that they have adequate earthquake coverage for their home or business. Nevada is one of the most active states for earthquakes and ranks third in the country for earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or higher.
