Gaming profits for Carson City area casinos slid by 1.7 percent in August, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports Wednesday. Casinos in Carson City and the valley side of Douglas County, including Minden and Gardnerville, took in $8,650,776 in August. Last year, during the same period, the casinos took in $8,801,148.
Statewide, casinos saw a 3.11 decrease in "gaming win" over the same period last year, the state's gaming regulator reports. Nevada casinos took in gaming profits of $859,240,472 for the month of August. In August 2011 it was $886,835,278.

CARSON CITY - The state of Nevada will pay $125,000 to a former Nevada Division of Forestry dispatcher who was fired soon after she told her bosses she was pregnant.
The state Board of Examiners agreed Tuesday to make the payment to Tawnya Meyer after being told by the attorney general's office that they might have to pay as much as $374,000 if the lawsuit went to court.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today that there are a large number of variables in play as he prepares his 2013-15 budget, including who wins the presidential election on Nov. 6.

Sandoval said a decision on whether to expand Nevada’s Medicaid program to cover newly eligible residents under the Affordable Care Act will wait for that result, since Gov. Mitt Romney has said he wants to repeal the law.

Total voter registration in Nevada increased by more than 48,000 in the past five weeks and 34,867 of those new voters registered online. Another 22,139 existing voters updated their registration forms online between Sept. 1 and Oct. 6.

CARSON CITY – Nevada is among the states with the highest amount of government debt per capita at $14,949, according to a new report from State Budget Solutions (SBS), a non-partisan advocate for state budget reform.

The level of debt put Nevada at 37th highest among the states.
