CARSON CITY – A proposal by Gov. Brian Sandoval to transfer the state share of operating the mental health courts to the counties was rejected by Democrat lawmakers today, creating another $6 million hole in the upcoming two-year budget that starts July 1.
The party-line vote by members of the Assembly Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees came after repeated testimony from advocates for the courts since the session began that they would close without continued state support because of fiscal problems facing the counties.

Care Flight has been advised and Carson City paramedics have responded tonight to a report of an injured cyclist, believed to be a teenager. The cyclist was found in the Deer Run canyon area east of Carson City and was to be brought down by a truck occupied by two who apparently found the cyclist. The call came in around 6:20 tonight. Care Flight is said to be landing shortly.

Five people were injured in an accident that occurred at approximately 1 p.m. at Highway 395 and Jacks Valley Road. Three of those injured were taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Southbound traffic on South Carson Street was backed up all the way to Colorado Street as of 4:15 p.m. The backstreets are also filling up as people search for a way around the blockage caused by the accident.

Governor Brian Sandoval today vetoed the Democratic spending proposal for Nevada’s K-12 budget.
Democrats and Republicans had been at loggerheads during debate over the bill, largely because it would provide for spending almost $700 million more than Sandoval wanted.
