Children and Family Counseling therapists Jeffrey Davis, MSW, LCSW and Kristopher Komarek, MSW, CSW-Intern, and will present a workshop at the Carson City Library on Monday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. This program is the second in the Mind-Body Connection: Mental Wellness Series. The presentation will focus on “Structure and Routine: Keys to a Parent’s Sanity.” Establishing a household structure and routine is often anything but routine. Parents will receive suggestions about how this can be accomplished to everyone’s benefit.

CARSON CITY – A legislative panel today quickly approved budget changes sought by a state agency so it can finalize a $3 million contract with an out-of-state firm to spearhead tourism efforts in Nevada.
Burson-Marsteller, with offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco, was the unanimous selection of an evaluation committee made up of Nevada tourism professionals. The company will be working with Red Rock Strategies of Las Vegas.

Jake Bayliss, a senior at Reno’s Bishop Manogue High School and Carson City resident, decided to support American Veterans in need by organizing a “Toiletries Drive” to benefit the VA Hospital in Reno, Nevada. Jake gathered over 200 kits containing toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, razors, shaving cream and deodorant which he delivered to the VA Hospital on August 22, 2012.

The second show of the 10th annual Summer Concerts on the Veranda Series takes place tonight at Café at Adele’s. The music plays every Thursday through Sept. 13, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Offering a line-up that ranges from jazz and world music to American rock and country, this season showcases some of the best talent from Nevada and California.

I wanted to take some time to send out a special thank you to the awesome Businesses and people in our community who helped support our Junior and Senior Little League All Stars advancement to the Western Regional Tournaments in Vancouver WA and Ontario, CA this year! With out their support this would not have been possible for these fine athletes. Our Juniors (13-14 year olds) and Seniors (15-16 year olds) both Finished 1 and 3 in their tournaments and failed to advance to the Little League World Series but had an experience that most kids never have had.

Construction of bicycle and pedestrian facilities is about to begin on Roop Street between Winnie Lane and Northridge Drive! Although short, this stretch of road is currently one of the more dangerous areas in town for cyclists and pedestrians. Safe and well used bicycle facilities exist on either side of Lone Mountain, but cyclists must brave fast traffic and a crumbling shoulder if they wish to connect the two areas. And although pedestrians are instructed not to use this route, no other reasonable routes exist nearby.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has announced a number of promotions, advancements and replacements. According to Trooper Chuck Allen, NHP has promoted Joe McKay and Dave Cox to the rank of sergeant. Cox will be assigned to the Fallon area while McKay will remain in the Reno-Sparks area.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested Christopher Michael Schumacher, 30, a man of unknown origin, as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Schumacher was arrested based on felony allegations of third-offense domestic battery and disuading a victim from reporting a crime, gross misdemeanor allegations of child abuse/neglect and false imprisonment, and a misdemeanor allegation of violation of a probation warrant.

Work is expected to begin August 27 on a Carson CIty project to provide bicycle and pedestrian improvements on North Roop Street from Winnie Lane to Northridge Drive. The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission has awarded a contract which will connect existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities in Carson City, according to a news release. Roop Street between Winnie Lane and Northridge Drive currently does not have a sidewalk or bike lanes, and people often try to use a narrow strip of concrete against a wall to travel this section of road.
