This Mother’s Day, take mom on an historical train excursion via the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Sunday, May 13.
This special edition train ride from Carson City to Virginia City will provide mom with a long stem rose, Wild West history, storytelling, shopping and dining in Virginia City to go along with the spectacular scenery. The train features a 1953 ALCO heritage diesel locomotive leading 100 year-old Pullman coaches displaying the distinctive yellow and green of the V&T.

CARSON CITY – Assembly Speaker and 3rd Congressional District candidate John Oceguera, D-Las Vegas, declined today to say whether he supports the federal health care law now under review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Oceguera, who is termed out of office in the Assembly, said it is premature to comment on the law given the fact that it is awaiting a decision on its constitutionality by the nation’s high court.

The celebration of Bike Week continued today with Muscle Power Carson City taking Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, school Superintendent Richard Stokes, supervisors Shelly Aldean, Karen Abowd and Molly Walt and others on a bike ride around the west side of Carson City.

The group met at Telegraph Square and ventured out to Omsby Boulevard to Ash Canyon Road, over the Winnie Lane, returning to on Nevada Street.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony allegations over this weekend:

  • Tyrell Liddicoat, 24, a Carson City man, just prior to 10 p.m. Saturday. Liddicoat was arrested for attempted burglary at the 600 block of Sonoma Street. Bail has been set at $25,000.

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has approved Google’s license application to test autonomous vehicles on Nevada public roads.

It is the first license issued in the United States under new laws and regulations that put Nevada at the forefront of autonomous vehicle development.

CARSON CITY – Establishing school choice for parents and ending social promotion for students are two top priorities in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s education reform agenda for the 2013 legislative session, an administration official said today.

Linking pay to performance and providing professional development to ensure students have the best possible classroom teachers is a third major priority, said Dale Erquiaga, senior adviser to Sandoval.
