Hearing On Apple Tax Breaks Generates No Public Comment, Will Be Reviewed Wednesday By State Economic Board

CARSON CITY – There were no takers today for the chance to weigh in on $89 million in tax breaks being offered to Apple in exchange for the company building a data center and related facilities in the Reno area that are expected to bring $1 billion in investment over the next decade.

The hearing on the proposed sales and personal property tax abatements, made as part of a deal to bring Apple to Northern Nevada, did not generate a single comment.

Crime Log: Man arrested for lewdness after alleged incident at motel

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

Oscar John Stone, 49, a Woodland, Calif. man, at 12:30 a.m. Friday. Stone was arrested for gross lewdness after allegedly touching himself inappropriately while staring at a motel desk clerk. Bail is set at $2,500.
Solomon Tobias Jacoboni, 43, a Carson City man, at 7 a.m. today. Jacoboni was arrested for third-offense domestic battery. Bail is set at $10,000.

Redevelopment committee seeking comments on South Carson Street plans

The Carson City Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee is seeking comment on the South Carson Street Redevelopment Area in advance of its next meeting on Aug. 6.

“The Redevelopment Authority and Citizens Committee want to know what the property owners and businesses within the area want to see redevelopment money spent on,” according to City Planning Director, Lee Plemel. “There isn’t much redevelopment money available right now, but we need to think long-term.”

I-580 opens to bikes, walkers

Crowds flocked to the new I-580 freeway connecting Carson City and Reno this morning to bike, walk or run on the northbound lanes sans cars.

It was a big party on the Galena Creek Bridge, with hundreds stopping to look over the edge and take pictures.

The southbound lanes were opened to cars as well to experience this new roadway before it opens full traffic next month.

Nevada Posts Double-Digit Gain In Taxable Sales In May, 23rd Consecutive Month Of Increases

CARSON CITY – Nevada taxable sales jumped by double-digits in May, with consumers purchasing $3.7 billion in goods for a 10.4 percent increase over May 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Clark County taxable sales were up 10 percent, while Washoe County saw a 4.9 percent gain.

On Tuesday, July 31, there will be lane closures on Carson Street between Musser Street and 7th Street due to roadway maintenance.

There will be nightly lane closures on US 395 from the junction of US 50W (Spooner) to 1st Street in Minden, Sunday through Thursday, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. There will be flagger controlled traffic.

There will be work at the following locations as a result of the Freeway Landscaping Project. Traffic control may be in effect.

North Carson Street, in the vicinity of the freeway overpass.
