RENO, Nev. – Three Reno news organizations are teaming up to provide a debate on Thursday, Aug. 25, two days before early voting begins. The debate will last one hour, beginning at 6 p.m.

All four candidates in the race to fill the U.S. House seat left open by Dean Heller confirmed they will attend.

It’s a collaborative effort between the Reno Public Radio 88.7 FM (NPR), KNPB-TV Channel 5 (PBS), and the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Visible from Carson City and Carson Valley, a fire continues to burn in Alpine County, Calif., near the Indian Creek Reservoir area. Alpine County has evacuated the Indian Creek Campground, reports Helen Frazier of the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
While there aren't any homes in the immediate fire area, the campground does have a number of recreation facilities.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the National Association of Town Watch will co-sponsor the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mills Park.
The theme for this year is “101 Days of Crime Prevention and Safety” which was envisioned by Sheriff Ken Furlong to promote safety throughout the summer which continues well after National Night Out. Festivities run from 5 to to 8 p.m.

The Carson City Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday to hear a request by Granite Construction for a time extension to build a concrete plant; will take up a right-of-way abandonment on Karin Drive and will review a special use permit for an apartment complex in the 800 block of North Division.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for Monday July 25 through Sunday, July 31. Beginning Tuesday, July 26, Saliman Road will be closed at Robinson Street for construction of a water transmission line. Detours will be marked. The road is expected to remained closed until Aug. 21.
