Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Josephina Rodriguez, 43, a Carson City woman, at just after 9 p.m. Tuesday at the 3800 block of South Carson Street. Rodriguez was arrested for felony burglary. She is alleged to have stolen ten items from the Carson City Kohls, where she was assigned to clean over a period of several months. She claimed were clothes for her grandson. Bail is set at $2,500.

CARSON CITY – Treasurer Kate Marshall announced today that a request for proposals for a manger to oversee a new investment program using up to $50 million from the state Permanent School Fund has been issued by the Nevada Capital Investment Corporation (NCIC) Board of Directors.

CARSON CITY – State Sen. Greg Brower, R-Reno, has asked Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto why an outside legal firm was retained to defend the state against a freeway construction dispute. Legal costs charged to the state will total $6 million by the end of an arbitration hearing set for next month.

The movie "Haywire,"currently screening at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City, is a spy thriller with a twist. The top spy is a woman, Mallory Kane, played by Gina Carano, in her first major starring role.

Those who know the Northern Nevada area might recognize the name Carano from the casinos the family owns and operates. Gina's father Glenn Carano was a backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, and no doubt passed on some toughness to his daughter.

Mallory opens the movie with a expletive that is repeated at the close. Can't say director Steven Soderbergh isn't neat.

CARSON CITY – A panel of lawmakers today began a review of the state’s 45-year-old formula for funding public education with an eye towards addressing the needs of the state’s urban districts as they work to educate special education students, English-language learners and children in poverty.

The panel is still searching for funding for a study to help in the review, however. The failure to find private funding for a study could jeopardize any meaningful review in this interim, lawmakers were told.

Pete Livermore has announced he will be running for a second term representing Assembly District 40, which encompasses most of Carson City.

Livermore served on the Carson City Board of Supervisors until he was elected to the Assembly in 2010, edging out fellow supervisor Robin Williamson.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested William Taylor Payne, 21, a student from Cordova, Tenn., just after midnight this morning near a south Carson Street convenience store. Payne was arrested on allegations of felony possession of marijuana (more than an ounce), felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell, misdemeanor speeding, and misdemeanor open container. The arresting officer discovered within Payne's vehicle a large red duffel bag, which contained just over 16 pounds of marijuana. Bail is set at $10,000.
