The first stage of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California was canceled minutes before it was set to begin because of concerns over snow and slick riding conditions at South Lake Tahoe. Organizers had hoped to shorten the course, but riders at the last minute voiced concern about conditions.

Nevada State Prison in Carson City is slated to close in April 2012, 150 years after it first opened.
The Senate Finance Committee and the Assembly Ways and Means Committee voted Saturday to close Nevada State Prison next year to save the state $17 million. Most of the inmates and staff will be transfered to other facilities, but approximately 30 employees will lose their jobs. The Las Vegas Sun has the details.

CARSON CITY – Democrats today voted to reject Gov. Brian Sandoval’s proposed budget cuts to Medicaid programs this morning.
The governor would have saved about $90 million in his budget through the reductions. Republicans on the Legislature’s money committees voted to cut the Medicaid budget in line with Sandoval’s recommendations.
The Medicaid funding would help reimburse hospitals and their staff for caring for Medicaid patients.
