A recent wire service story stating that the Nevada Republican Party was moving its caucus date is not accurate according to party officials.

Nevada Republican Party Executive Director David Gallagher issued the following the statement regarding the February 4th Nevada Caucus Date:

“It was incorrectly reported earlier that the Nevada GOP was considering moving the date of the Nevada Caucuses, this is absolutely untrue, the caucuses will take place on February 4th as planned. There was never any consideration to move our caucus date and we look forward to a successful and well run caucus on February 4th. “

Nevada Democrats will caucus on Saturday to reaffirm Barack Obama as the party's presidential candidate and organize for the general campaign.

Carson City Democrats will meet at Carson Middle School, 1140 West King Street. Registration begins at 11 a.m. The caucus is open to all registered Democrats. For more information, call 841-3367.

Beginning in June, two flights will be offered from Reno-Tahoe International Airport to San Jose International Airport via Alaska Airlines.
The new service is also tied to flights to Hawaii from Reno offered through Alaska Airlines.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Roy Nelson Robinson, 47, an unemployed Carson City man, at about 1 p.m. Thursday at the 900 block of South Carson Street. Robinson was arrested for a misdemeanor domestic battery and a felony sex offender failure to change address. Bail is set at $8,000 plus administrative fees.

Officials reported this morning that the Washoe Drive Fire destroyed 26 homes, and has currently consumed 3,900 acres.

At a 9 a.m. press conference, officials reported the blaze is 50 percent contained, and that 700 firefighters are working to extinguish hot spots in advance of the high wind that are forecast for this afternoon.

There were 20 homes reported lost last night, but in the light of day, personnel working the fire were able to get a better count of the structures that burned.

The Nevada Highway Patrol advises Highway 395 through Washoe Valley, from SR 431 Mount Rose to Carson City will remain closed through Friday and possibly Saturday. Motorists should find alternative routes to Carson City as agencies continue to work on the fire.

10:00 p.m. update: Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez said tonight the Washoe Drive Fire has consumed and estimated 3,700 acres, burned at least 20 structures and has resulted in one fatality.

Hernandez would not go into details of how the person died. He said the 250+ firefighters on the scene have stopped the forward progress of the fire. He said the fire started in the East Lake area, and then followed the Highway 395 corridor north, where it was stopped just south of Galena High School.
