On this day of remebrance, it has been pointed out to me that few people know of the presence of this memorial. This beam is from (I believe) the north tower of the World Trade Center. It was given to the good people of Carson City by the Port Authority of New York to mark that fateful day.

It is located in Mills Park, at the eastern edge of the Pony Express Pavillion (near the snack bar).

It is a piece of history that should not be forgotten.

The Bike Habitat is hosting two events this month.  First up is a Women’s Bike Maintenance Clinic on Tuesday evening September 25th at 6:30pm. The clinic is FREE!! During the Clinic you will learn to fix a flat, perform a safety check, lube your chain and much more.  Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Proscenium Players, Inc. of Carson City, currently in its 47th season, is holding auditions for “A Christmas Chaos” Sunday at 5:30 p.m. and again Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Silver State Charter School Performance Arts Building, 900 Mallory Rd. in Carson City.

“A Christmas Chaos” is a hilarious romp of everything that can go wrong in front of and behind the curtain of a community theater production. When the Royal Shakespeare Company – slated to perform the Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol” – is waylaid, the local troupe is forced to rewrite, rehearse and perform a replacement.

United Blood Services invites the public to its annual 9/11 Heroes Remembered Blood Drive, today, September 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 256 E Winnie Lane, Carson City.
A presentation will begin at 3 p.m. with a Color Guard, patriotic songs by Rick Radecki, and food provided by Reds Old 395 Grill and San Marcos Grill. All blood donors will received a 9/11 commemorative T-shirt.

Flags will be flown at half-staff around Nevada in remembrance of the families and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a proclamation ordering flags lowered Tuesday at all state buildings, from sunup to sundown.

Travis Brass, the resident brass quintet of the US Air Force Band of the Golden West from Travis AFB, Calif., will present a free concert on Sunday, Sept. 16th at 4 pm at the Carson City Community Center. Travis Brass consists of five full-time active duty professional musicians working in support of Air Mobility Command and the US Air Force. From a standard march or traditional brass composition to jazz, ragtime and patriotic selections, Travis Brass’ diverse repertoire covers a myriad of styles with something to please everyone.

Gaming profits for Carson City area casinos fell slightly by 0.19 percent in July, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Statewide, Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,005,876,336 for July, a 16.95 percent increase compared to July 2011, when licensees reported a gaming win of $860,076,138. The Las Vegas Strip was the big taker for Nevada casinos, with a 27.51 percent gain over 2011 figures.
