Major League Baseball revealed a new playoff format this year by adding an additional team to the wild card mix. It has some potential in my mind after being extremely skeptical about it.

Before this year, only one team won a wild card spot in both the American and National Leagues and they went straight into the Division Series. This year the playoff format allowed one additional team in each league to play for the wild card spot in the division series.

Hundred of motorcycle riders arrived Wednesday with the Traveling Vietnam Wall in Carson City in an official escort by the Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City Sheriff's Office.
Veterans and local military personnel assisted in the convoy that began from the Silverado Casino in Fernley and ended at Mills Park in Carson City, where it will be put up overnight in time for Nevada Day Festivities.
The Traveling Vietnam Wall honors our fallen servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice and paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom and duty.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office escorted about 500 Vietnam Veterans as they rode through the city on their bikes. They were escorting the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial that is being erected at Mills Park as part of Battle Born Days and the Nevada Day Festivities. The Downtown Business Association merchants were on hand to wave flags and cheer them on.

The third annual Celebrity Chef Harvest Dinner to benefit The Greenhouse Project will take place November 12 from 5:30 PM - 9 pm at Café at Adele’s in Carson City. The event features a six course pairing of fine wine and food as prepared by Charlie Abowd, Adele's chef and owner, and guest chef Mark Estee of Campo, recently named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation and Carson City authorities have again launched Operation Scarecrow, a program eight years running that targets sex offenders and predators during Halloween.

Operation Scarecrow's purpose is to ensure there is no contact between division supervised sex offenders and children. Law enforcement will provide enhanced community supervision and give specific direction to high risk and high profile sex offenders, said DPS Spokeswman Gail Powell.

I appreciate the opportunity to write a commentary regarding Carson City Question 1 (CC#1) because I hope I might reach those people who are undecided on CC1 because of all the fearful information being circulated.
To make my point, a fairly large ad appeared in the Saturday, October 20th edition of the NV Appeal which had a picture of two older people and a young child and it said “Loving grandparents leave no debts for their grandchildren, vote no on CC#1”.

This Nevada Day Carson Colony will host the annual La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow. This event begins on Friday at 5 p.m. Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon. The Pow Wow is free and open to the public. There will be arts and crafts, food vendors and Native American dancing and singing. The Carson Colony is located in Carson City, 2900 S. Curry Street.

CONWAY, ARK. — A former Carson City emergency room doctor accused in a 2002 double slaying has been found mentally competent to stand trial for murder in January in Conway.
Richard Conte, 62, a former physician who lived in Douglas County, was charged in 2011 with capital murder for the execution-style slayings of businessman Carter Elliott, 49, and Timothy Wayne Robertson, 25.

A former Carson High School teacher faces charges of having sexual conduct with a student and the Carson City District Attorney's Office has issued a warrant for her arrest.
Jennifer Dalton, 35, quit the school district in November 2011 for personal reasons and has been on administrative pay since Sept. 1, 2011, Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes told the Nevada Appeal.

Comedienne Paula Poundstone has canceled her Friday appearance in Carson City due to a family emergency. Friends of the Carson Ciy Library President Phyllis Patton said tickets will be refunded and more information will be made available soon.
The show will be scheduled at a later date, Patton said. Ticket sales had started out slow but began to pick up this week, she said.
