Carson City, NV—Another Carson Nugget event will help bring the Vietnam Vets Traveling Memorial Wall to Carson City this fall.

During the entire month of June, the casino held a slot event to support this worthy cause. Today, the casino presented a check from the event to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388. Today’s check brings the total amount donated to this cause from the Carson Nugget to $2,000, which is just under a quarter of the group’s entire goal.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has issued a press release cautioning citizens to be aware of their surroundings due to a recent string of burglaries. The suspect (a hispanic female) is described as approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, thin, with medium length black or brown hair with possible blonde highlights. She is described as wearing a black backpack. She targets cash and small items such as jewelry, coin, and baseball cards during the daytime when the homeowners are at work.

Carson City Sheriff's Deputies have arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Travis Gumataotao, 24, a Carson City man, at 8:30 p.m. Thursday for gross misdemeanor allegations of child endangerment (6-year-old child with no helmet on a motorcycle). Gumataotao was also arrested for misdemeanor allegations of violations of the helmet requirement on a motorcycle, suspended registration, and an unspecified Class M enforcement issue. Bail is set at $2,630 plus administrative fees.

The National Weather Service in Reno reports a Red Flag Warning within Carson City and other areas of Northern and Western Nevada. This warning indicates that critical fire conditions may occur because of the harsh lightening that will follow up during tonight’s weather, along with light showers. The affected area for this kind of danger is within the west central portion of the Nevada Basin and range. The unstable weather is expected to last through Saturday.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he needs a lot of questions answered before he can decide whether to expand Medicaid eligibility in Nevada, and that it could take several months to resolve all the uncertainties.

“There’s no specific time schedule,” he said. “I mean I understand right now we’ve had the Supreme Court decision. Everyone has been waiting for that. I think there are still people that are trying to interpret it.

CARSON CITY – The state Board of Examiners today approved a $3 million contract with an out-of-state firm to spearhead tourism efforts in Nevada after being told the selection process was thorough and fair.

The board, with members Gov. Brian Sandoval and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto voting, approved the two-year contract with the California-based offices of Burson-Marsteller.

This year's A Concert Under the Stars, a fund-raiser for The Greenhouse Project has exceeded all expectations, according to Karen Abowd, project president.
"Preliminary numbers look like we raised between $32,000 and $34,000," Abowd said.
The goal had been to clear between $20 and $25,000.
The sold-out event hosted by Cafe at Adele's Wednesday,was headlined by PabloCruise and featured opening music by Jaime Kyle and The Mighty Surf Lords. Chili Bop Entertainment, co-owned by John Procaccini, long-time Carson City resident, was the event's promoter.
