These men and woman put on the uniform every day without fanfare, without asking for it, or expecting it. They do it with great pride in knowing that today is another day to protect and serve the public. They protect the very freedoms we have the privilege to enjoy. Most put that with the military but the freedom fight is also right here on our own home soil.

A parent walks alongside her child. She grips his hand tightly. She is excited, to be sure, but she will shed some tears today as she leaves her child for his first day of kindergarten. On this day of remebrance, it has been pointed out to me that few people know of the presence of this memorial. This beam is from (I believe) the north tower of the World Trade Center. It was given to the good people of Carson City by the Port Authority of New York to mark that fateful day.

It is located in Mills Park, at the eastern edge of the Pony Express Pavillion (near the snack bar).

It is a piece of history that should not be forgotten.
