Three Republican candidates for Congressional District 2 tried to sell their candidacies to about 100 members of the Nevada Federation of Republican Women at an event at the Plaza Hotel today.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is investigating the death of unidentified person found near the north end of the Carson River today. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until identification can be made and family can be notified, according to a press statement filed by Douglas County Sheriff's Capt. Joe Duffy.

Weather and conditions permitting, U.S. Highway 50 over Echo Summit, the main artery into South Lake Tahoe and onto Carson City is tentatively set to re-open early this afternoon, according to Caltrans. The road was closed May 11 to remove and replace a damaged rock wall barrier.

CARSON CITY – In the end, it was Sen. Joe Hardy who saved the day. He also saved one of his pet bills in the process.
The Republican doctor from Boulder City patched up a broken legislative process that threatened to kill bills after ideological disagreements between two Democratic committee leaders had resulted in an impasse.
Today is a deadline day for bills to pass, so if the two Democrats did not reach an agreement, the bills would die.

The following people were arrested by Carson City Sheriff's deputies May 19:
—Sarah Elizabeth Crockett, 21, of Carson City, was arrested in the 3800 block of South Carson Street for felony grand larceny and gross misdemeanor possession of drugs without a prescription. The suspect had been detained by store security after allegedly emerging from a dressing room without the items she entered with. She was also allegedly found to be in possession of a bottle of pills including morphine for which she did not have a prescription. Bail was set at $5,000.

CARSON CITY — Republicans today announced they have released to the public a set of complicated data about their redistricting proposal.
Democrats had said earlier the release of the data is a requirement before the two parties can begin to work toward a compromise.
The release of the data brightens an otherwise gloomy portrait of partisanship. Republicans and Democrats have so far elected not to negotiate terms in the redistricting battle.
