The National Night Out was started in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, a national crime prevention organization. The goal was to give the United States a "night out against crime." Over 15,500 communities nationwide participate in the National Night Out program, with large-scale celebrations such as the one Carson City has every year, and smaller-scale ones involving demonstrations, block parties, and citizens being urged to leave their lights on against crime.

The Carson Nugget Development Advisory Committee will meet Aug. 8 for possible action to recommend a "simplified and restructured program plan" to the Carson City Board of Supervisors for the Carson City Center Project, AKA Nugget Project.

The new plan calls for the formation of a not-for-profit entity that would take over ownership of the project.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval had a teleconference with the Nevada press today from Kuwait, where he is staying in the midst of a week-long trip to the Middle East, including visits with Nevada troops at several bases in Iraq.
Sandoval left Monday with the governors of Kentucky, Tennessee and Utah on the trip, and he expects to return this weekend.

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol troopers will be stepping up traffic enforcement on major highways and state routes throughout the county. With the recent increase in fatal traffic accidents on major highways and state routes in and around Douglas County, Major Brian Sanchez of the Nevada Highway Patrol has allocated additional personnel and resources to the area in an effort to address the problem.
