Nevada Department of Wildlife Director Tony Wasley to retire

Nevada Department of Wildlife Director Tony Wasley announced Monday he will retire effective December 2022, ending an over 25-year tenure with the agency. For the last nearly 10 years, Wasley has served as the agency’s director.

Winter storm prompts Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe to open 2022-23 season this Friday

With the National Weather Service forecast calling for two to four feet of snow expected by Wednesday above 7,000 feet and ideal temperatures for snowmaking operations to be in full swing, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced Monday its plans to open this Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13 for skiers and riders to make their first turns of the season.

Prescribed fire operations to continue this week at Lake Tahoe

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team will continue prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Conditions and weather permitting, California State Parks, Nevada Division of Forestry, North Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts will be burning piles in several locations around Lake Tahoe.

I asked for daffodil bulbs for my birthday this year. Since my date is in August, the bulbs came just a couple of weeks ago, which is perfect. I have been waiting for some cold weather before planting them, because I don’t want them to start growing now. With the recent freezing nights, I’m ready to plant!

As part of the Carson Ranger District’s Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will release sheep on Friday, Oct. 21 in the Jacks Valley Wildlife Management Fuels Reduction Project area just south of Jacks Valley Road near Carson City.
