Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest pair who allegedly stole purse from elderly woman

Two men each face felony strong armed robbery charges after they allegedly grabbed a purse Friday afternoon from an elderly woman in downtown Carson City.

Jeremy Wilson, 29, and Kevin Wrzensinski, 27, were arrested at motel room at the corner of Plaza and 8th Street within about 15 minutes of the robbery, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The men, who told investigators they are brothers, each have arrest warrants from outside the area and are not believed to be locals.

WNC Baseball: Freshman holds Wildcats to two hits in seven scoreless innings

After scoring 21 runs in their previous game, the Western Nevada College Wildcats ran into a pitcher on Friday that kept them off-balance.

Salt Lake Community College freshman right-hander Jason Jourdan checked the 14th-ranked Wildcats on two hits through seven innings en route to the Bruins’ 4-3 baseball victory in Henderson.

WNC Softball Tops Colorado Northwestern; Games continue Saturday in Carson City

Western Nevada College Wildcats Softball hosted Colorado Northwestern Community College Friday afternoon for a doubleheader at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City. The Wildcats won both games, 10-2 and 7-2. Pitchers Carlee Beck and Katilyn Covione earned the wins for Western.

In game one, the Wildcats scored in the second inning when Lindsay Ashbaugh knocked an RBI double that scored Andi Lee, who was walked and Katilyn Covione who singled. The score 2-0, WNC.

Fundraiser for Tiffani Barber on Saturday at Highway 50 East Pizza Factory

There will be a fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 22, for Tiffani Barber, a Carson City area cancer patient, at Pizza Factory on Highway 50 beginning at noon.

Last year Tiffani was diagnosed with gliobalstoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor. She found herself at age 24 in the fight for her life.

Tiffani is well known in Carson City for her beautiful contagious smile and upbeat personality. She is a hairstylist at Salon Chocolat, a Crossfit coach at Carson City Crossfit, but most of all she’s a daughter, sister and a friend.

Js’ Bistro in Dayton to hold Feb. 26 fundraiser for Medical Outreach Program

Js’ Old Town Bistro in Dayton will hold a Spaghetti Feed fundraiser on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 4 – 8pm.

Money raised will help local residents get needed medical, vision and dental care at the upcoming Medical Outreach Response Event (MORE).

Carson City firefighters on scene of fire in East Carson City near Mound House

Carson City firefighters responded this afternoon to a structure fire off of Highway 50 near Mound House. The fire, said to be an outbuilding, is off of Garnet Circle.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire at around 12:35 p.m. after seeing a column of smoke. When firefighters arrived they saw the structure burning, according to dispatch. The Central Lyon County Fire District in Mound House was notified.

A dispatcher with Central Lyon County Fire District said the structure was an outbuilding. No other information was available.

More than 60 apply to be city manager

Carson City attracted 64 applicants for its open city manager post, 12 of them from Nevada and the balance from 21 other states.

Carson City man not allowed in casinos jailed on probation violation charges

A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of probation violation and misdemeanor violation of bail conditions. Myron Buckley was being held without bail pending a hearing on the felony charge.
