The Proposed Carson City Sales Tax Increase — quit whining and start helping

As could be expected, the proposal to raise Carson City’s sales tax has brought out the “government is bad” crowd to whine about everything that could possibly go wrong. The problem with this approach is that there ends up being such a long list of gripes that it’s hard to take any of it seriously. There have no focus, just a terrified howl of discontent about the sky falling.

String of vehicle burglaries in Gardnerville Ranchos being investigated

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) in the theft of several parts from vehicles in various locations in the Gardnerville Ranchos area.

The first report occurred on January 9, 2014 where a victim reported the rear bumper was stolen from his 2011 Toyota pickup. This incident occurred at 1035 Riverview Drive.

Storms to bring rain and snow to Carson City, Sierra through the weekend

A wet pattern is expected into the weekend as a series of storms lined up in the Pacific should make it to the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

The first storm is expected Thursday and will spread snow into the eastern Sierra with lighter snow near the valley floors of western Nevada. The heaviest snow is expected in the Sierra south of Interstate 80.

Carson City Supervisor Bonkowski to hold Friday 'Breakfast with Brad' at the Cracker Box

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his monthly “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 am at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to stop in.

The monthly meetings help Bonkowski get input on important issues in an informal setting.

Snowboarder dies at Lake Tahoe ski resort

An 18-year-old Fountain Valley, Calif., man died Tuesday in a snowboarding accident at Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Mountain Resort.

Wyatt James Colvard died due to internal injuries from blunt force trauma suffered in a snowboard accident, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Woman jailed on felony charges of credit card fraud

A 39-year-old woman with two felony credit card fraud warrants for her arrest turned herself in Monday to Carson City Sheriff's Office detention deputies.

Nicole St. Pearre of Kissimmee, Fla., faces charges of obtaining money under false pretenses and fraudulent use of a credit card. The warrants were issued Sept. 18, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $20,000.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension program recognized by U.S. Interior Department

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Bootstraps Program has received the 2013 Partners in Conservation Award from the U.S. Department of the Interior, one of only 20 programs across the nation to receive this award for achievements in conservation of natural resources that include collaborative activity among a diverse range of entities.
