Carson City skaters take to the ice, Arlington arena celebrates sixth season

Ice skating enthusiasts of all ages burned off Thanksgiving dinner and then some Friday by lacing up the blades and getting their axels, spirals and swizzles in overdrive at Carson City's Arlington Square Ice Rink for the opening day.

Carson City residents and visitors of all ages are invited to take their picture with Santa at the Carson Nugget on tonight, Thursday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event is free to attend and parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to take capture the precious memories. The entire Carson Nugget Banquet area will be decorated including a live Santa Claus and there will be hot chocolate and candy canes for the children.

During this event the Carson Nugget will also be collecting coats to donate to those in need this winter season.

Warm weather to continue through weekend, Tuesday to bring blast of cold and snow

Enjoy the sunny, warm weather this weekend because a cool and downright cold change is on the way by late Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Light winds with above average temperatures are expected through the holiday weekend, making for ideal conditions to bike and hike around Carson City, visit Virginia City or head to Lake Tahoe for skiing.

Domestic disputes, fights dominate Carson City arrests on Thanksgiving day

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded to numerous fights on Thursday that resulted in misdemeanor arrests for assault and domestic battery charges. Among the arrests:

A 41-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday in the 3400 block of Imperial Way. She was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and resisting after allegedly punching her husband.

Carson City motel manager jailed after allegedly threatening tenant, beating his girlfriend

A 50-year-old Carson City motel manager faces a felony charge of intimidating a witness. Britt Andrew Taylor was arrested early Friday morning in the 1500 block of Rand Avenue.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a motel on Rand Avenue regarding a domestic battery. On the scene officers made contact with a female victim who was outside, on the ground, unconscious in front of the manager's apartment as well as a female witness who was there trying to stop the woman's head from bleeding by applying pressure on it.

Carson Nugget feeds hundreds at 59th community Thanksgiving dinner

The 59th annual Carson Nugget community Thanksgiving dinner brought hundreds to the annual free Carson City feast, where helpings of good cheer were dished up with mountains of mashed potatoes and plenty of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.

New to this year's menu, the Carson Nugget joined forces with FISH (Friends in Service Helping) as a way to expand the annual holiday dinner. FISH brought with them 100 turkeys and 25 volunteers.

NHP: Idaho woman killed in single-vehicle crash near Tonopah

An Idaho motorist died Wednesday night after a single-vehicle crash in Esmeralda County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP troopers were dispatched at 6:30 p.m. to the rollover crash on US Highway 6 in Esmeralda County, approximately 13 miles west of Tonopah, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

The preliminary crash investigation details indicates the driver of a green 1993 Subaru Outback, Becky W. Olsen, 54, of Harpster, Idaho was traveling west on US Highway 6 when she allowed her vehicle to drift off the right roadway edge.
