Fireworks will be part of Tuesday Carson City Fire Department training
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 04/30/2013 - 8:46amThe Carson City Fire Department will hold a training this morning at Station 52, 2400 College Parkway, that includes the setting off of fireworks, said Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.
The training exercise, which should last for about an hour, will begin at around 9 a.m. The training is part of a class on fire inspection of licensed pyrotechnic companies, Giomi explained.
The explosions are expected to be relatively minor and heard in the nearby area, said Giomi.

The annual event benefits Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30 p.m.

Carson City DA's Office, Carson Montessori students place Big Bad Wolf on Trial
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 4:08pmThe Carson City District Attorney's Office presented the mock trial of State v. Alexander T. Wolf at Carson Montessori School on Monday for the 4th through 6th grade classes.
As part of the Office's community outreach and partnership with local schools, the District Attorney's Office created the mock trial based on the story of the “Three Little Pigs” to teach students about the criminal justice system as well as increase critical thinking and reasoning skills, according to a news release.

Dr. Candice Hansen-Koharecheck of the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Ariz., will speak on Friday, May 3. She works on the Cassini mission to Saturn with the Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (UVIS) investigation team, responsible for planning and analyzing icy satellite data. She led the science team for Jet Propulsion Laboratory-Titan Orbiter. Dr. Hansen is also currently the Deputy Principal Investigator for the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Nevada Governor Sandoval says firings, discipline action taken in mental health bus probe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 1:01pmAn investigation that found Las Vegas area mental health patients being shipped by bus to California and other states for treatment has led to an unspecified amount of firings, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Monday.
In a statement, Sandoval said further disciplinary action has been taken at Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas based upon internal investigations of 1,500 patients discharged since July 2008. Late last week, the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services finished its review of out-of-state transports between July 2008 and March 2013.
