Carson City crosswalk accident sends to two hospital with minor injuries

UPDATE 6:17PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports tonight that two suffered minor injuries after being hit by a vehicle. They were taken to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City. CareFlight had been called but canceled after it was determined the injuries were not life-threatening and were considered minor.

NV Energy issues fraud alert to customers

NV Energy has learned that a person(s) identifying themselves as employees of the company are calling customers threatening to disconnect power if a credit card payment or cash transfer is not made over the phone immediately. NV Energy does not call customers and solicit payments. If customers receive a call asking for a payment, they should refuse and call local law enforcement official or NV Energy if they have additional questions.

State Senate GOP Leadership Endorses Drivers’ Licenses For Deferred Action Program

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s state  Senate Republican leadership today expressed support for a state policy that makes thousands of young immigrants living in Nevada eligible for a state-issued driver’s license or ID.

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, with the support of Gov. Brian Sandoval, announced this week that its policy would be to honor the employment authorization card granted to successful applicants under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Deferred Action program.

$1.7 million donated to UNR's Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center by the late Betty Heaston

The late Reno resident Betty Heaston has donated more than $1.7 million to the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center to benefit programs, staff and operations. Heaston also made an additional bequest of more than $57,000 to create an endowment for student scholarships.

“Betty particularly loved her life in Reno and championed all the city had to offer,” said Forrest Bolles, Heaston’s nephew. “But she had a particular feeling for the University of Nevada, Reno, and was very proud that the city had a world-class institution of higher learning.”
