Crime Log: Carson City man arrested for felony warrant out of California
Submitted by admin on Mon, 12/19/2011 - 1:46pmIt was a relatively quiet weekend for crime in Carson City, with only one felony arrest.
Joel David Germain, 42, of Carson City, was arrested early Sunday morning in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road on a felony warrant out of California, and for failing to register as an ex-felon, a misdemeanor. He was held without bail.
Carson City Sheriff's deputies also arrested three persons for first offense driving under the influence, in three separate incidents.
UNR uses new tech to record Antarctic Ocean, ice temperatures
Submitted by editor on Mon, 12/19/2011 - 1:22pmRENO, Nev. – Half-mile long thermometers have been dropped through the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica that will give the world relevant data on sea and ice temperatures for tracking climate change and its effect on the glacial ice surrounding the continent. The study based at the University of Nevada, Reno is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Office of Polar Programs and other NSF grants.
Road Report for Dec. 19-25
Submitted by admin on Sun, 12/18/2011 - 12:05pmDue to a project to complete a new north-south water transmission line on the east side of Carson City, there will be lane closures with flaggers in the vicinity of the roundabout at the intersection of Fifth Street and Fairview Drive, Monday through Thursday. Delays are expected.
There will be work at the following locations as a result of the Freeway Landscaping Project. No closures are expected.
- North Carson Street, in the vicinity of the freeway overpass.
- Arrowhead Drive between North Carson Street and Garnet Way.

But this week the IHOP did reopen, with the governor, mayor and sheriff in attendance to reassure residents that we will not let the acts of a madman control our lives, that we can put this tragic episode behind us.
