Prescribed burn on Kingsbury Grade flares up, burns 14 acres
Submitted by admin on Thu, 12/01/2011 - 2:29pmA prescribed fire on Upper Kingsbury Grade conducted two weeks ago rekindled, touching off about 14 acres before it was fully contained late this morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
"The fire is 100 percent contained," said spokeswoman Cheva Heck.
Fire crews respond to the rekindling off Andria Drive on Kingsbury Grade, near Stateline. Three Forest Service crews and two engines responded. Cold weather and high winds had created difficult conditions for firefighters and interfered with the ability to pump water from engines.
Nevada won't join other states in petition to DEA to reclassify marijuana

Crime log: Two separate probation violations lead to arrests

At around 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, Carson City Sheriff's officers arrested Corey Allan Madieros, 19, a construction worker from Gardnerville, near the 1300 block of South Carson Street. Madieros was arrested for a Parole and Probation violation; no bail was set.

While low-cost HIV testing is always available at the health clinic on Long Street, testing will be offered for FREE today, Thursday, December 1. No appointment is necessary and the free testing will be available from 9-11 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m.

Just signed up, and it's a pretty backwards way of handing online subscriptions. Perhaps they've never heard the term "ecommerce" before. But enough about that.
Most of the news today that is locked behind the wall are stories we've already brought to you for free, such as the lawsuit alleging that state Sen. Mo Denis can't serve in the legislature while working for the Nevada Public Utilities Commission. Then there is the announcement that open enrollment for Nevada's prepaid college tuition plan begins today. And then there is this story about the committee that is looking at how Nevada funds education.
