Robert Schreihans named Carson City’s new fire chief
Carson City has a new fire chief. Battalion Chief Robert S. Schreihans has been picked to lead the fire squad for the capital city of Nevada. The announcement was made by the city manager late Tuesday.
Schreihans replaces Stacey Giomi who announced in December that he was retiring, after 31 years of being with the Carson City Fire Department.
A panel of local fire chiefs and the city manager held interviews for the position. Schreihans was selected after careful review of the applicants’ work experience and education, said Carson City Manager Nick Marano.
Mr. Schreihans has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada and over 30 years of fire service experience. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Labor Management program from Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
When promoted to Chief of Emergency Medical Services and Training, Chief Stacey Giomi noted that Mr. Schreihans “epitomized the kind of business savvy individual that will be extremely successful” in the Battalion Chief position and further stated, “Perhaps his greatest gift is his ability to really understand the business side of [the Emergency Medical Services] industry.”
“Chief Schreihans has worked his way up through the department, and has earned a well-deserved reputation for integrity, perseverance and innovation, said Marano. "He is a dynamic leader who will serve the community well as the next Fire Chief. I proudly welcome him to this critically important position.”
Schreihans will begin his new duties at the end of the month.
