Wine tasting fundraiser Thursday to help create unique gathering place at Mills Park in Carson City
Each year, the Chamber’s Leadership Institute class embraces a class project to enhance the quality of life within our community. Some of the projects have supported the needs of our charitable nonprofits while others have benefitted the citizens-at-large through public enhancements within the cemetery, on public trails, senior center, library, children’s museum and more.
This year’s class has wisely chosen to repurpose and revitalize the former Firefighter’s Memorial located at the eastern section of Mills Park.
What was once a fine memorial, now currently in decay, is to reincarnate as public amphitheater for the free use of residents whether for an intimate wedding, family gathering, musical performance, or other event where a small venue around which there is plenty of parking would be appropriate.
To be completed by mid-June, the first formal event will be the official ribbon cutting. The ceremony – date yet to be announced - will be dedicated to the memory of recently deceased Stan Jones, a staunch supporter of everything Carson.
Fundraising is the key to all Leadership projects and community support is appreciated.
On Thursday, March 28, a fundraiser for the project is being held between 5-7 pm at Mayer Family Wines, located at 408 North Carson Street, to honor the memory of Stan Jones — who would have loved this project — to raise funds to cover the various expenses to make this intimate revitalized public amphitheater a one-of-a-kind gathering place. Go here to purchase tickets.
See the Mayer Family Wines website here and Facebook page here.
Come meet the Class of ‘24 and learn about the unique project which will be the first project to be completed under the recently approved parks and recreation department master plan for the revitalization of beloved Mills Park.
Your donation of $25 is your ticket to an evening of hobnobbing in one of Carson’s newest downtown businesses while enjoying wine with other locals who understand how important it is to provide recreational opportunities for all.
