Tickets available for 14th Grateful Harvest Dinner to benefit Carson City's Greenhouse Project
Tickets are on sale for the 14th annual Grateful Harvest Dinner taking place Monday, Sept. 18, at Nashville Social Club in Carson City. This annual event is The Greenhouse Project's primary fundraiser with proceeds allowing the organization to continue its work of agricultural education and growing food for the community's food insecure.
The Greenhouse Project is a 501 (c)3 non-profit dedicated to teaching area students the latest in agricultural practices at its location at Green Central on Carson High School's campus, and at Foothill Garden, at Carson Tahoe Health's campus. Food grown at both sites is distributed to Meals on Wheels, Friends in Service Helping (FISH), Ron Wood Family Resource Center and Circles Initiative. These organizations then distribute the produce to those who need it.
This year's multi-course wine- or beer-paired dinner features recipes from Chef Charlie Abowd's book, "Recipes and Rambles that made Adele's a Nevada hot spot," prepared by Nashville Social's Chef Tony Schafer, alongside Schafer's own original offerings.
"We're looking forward to an evening that captures the spirit of Adele's combined with the best of what Nashville Social Club brings to our town presently," said Karen Abowd, TGP's founder and president. "Every year, the event has showcased incredible culinary talent while raising the funds needed to move The Greenhouse Project forward."
Abowd added that in addition to the Native Plant Nursery and Composting program started last year to create ongoing funding streams, TGP's Grow It Forward sponsorship allows TGP to achieve its annual $70K match monies goal to fund operations. Donations in any amount, big or small, make this local match donation go further and is designated for those who give simply because they care and believe in TGP's mission.
"It is our goal that TGP's mission continues long after we are gone," she said. "None of the work we do now or in future can be accomplished without our community's generosity."
This year's sponsors are Gratitude ($10,000), Don and Sherry Kuhl; Busy Bee ($10,000), Julius Ballardini; Fresh Sprouts ($8,000), Aspire; Bloom & Grow ($5,000), co-sponsors Carson Tahoe Health and Carson City Toyota; Wine ($2,500), SWGas; Music ($2,000), Brian Andrew’s/Farmers Ins: Course sponsors ($1,500 each), Manhard Consulting, First Independent Bank, Jefferey Pace and Gabriel Aguayo, Kilpatrick Bullentini, NV Energy, John Procaccini and Kitty McKay, Congressman Mark Amodei, Michelle and Rocky Joy, Dr. Jim and Midge Breeden, Bodine's, Silver Bullet LLC, Capital Tree Care LLC/Tom Wion, and Top Notch Distributing; Angel Donors ($5,000 each): Dr. Sandra Koch and Dr. Timothy McFarren and Soraya and Dr. Jose Aguirre; Grow It Forward: Gold Dust West (open to all as noted).
