NAA Art Gallery in Carson City features John Kallestad, International Photography winner through Feb. 9
John P. Kallestad began shooting with his first camera, a Nikon F over 50 years ago.
In the early 1900’s he attended his first photo workshop in Bodie, California. From there, he continued to expand his knowledge and expertise in the use of the film camera, producing in excess of 15,000 slides over the next ten years from a base at Lake Tahoe.
In the early 2000’s he switched to a digital camera. His philosophy is that his camera is a “time machine”.
Through photography he explores unfamiliar places in search of light, composition and subject matter, whether it is landscape, wildlife or a simple rock. His desire is to capture a “Moment in Time” with his time machine.
John currently has a Featured Artist Show through February 9 at the Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery at 449 W. King Street.
On exhibit along with his other photographs is “Man in Light”. John says, “In 1998, this self-portrait was the winner of People in Nature, an International Photography contest run by Natures Best Photography Magazine and CEMEX. This contest is run every year.
There were six categories that year, with several thousand entries in People in Nature. To photograph this image was a time consuming process which took between 30 – 45 minutes”.
Be sure to visit John’s show Tuesday-Sunday 12-4pm.
