Arnold finishes 13th at NCAA meet
Idaho State University sophomore and Carson City product Mike Arnold finished 13th in the men's pole vault at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Arnold cleared a height of 16-feet, 10¾, which fell short of the personal best of 17-7¾ he set one week before in Seattle. This marked his first appearance at the NCAA nationals.
Scott Roth of Washington won the title with a jump of 18-4-1/2, followed by Rice's Jason Colwick of Rice and Indiana's Jeffrey Coover. Roth, a junior from Granite Bay in the Sacramento area, finished second behind Colwick at the NCAA outdoor nationals in 2009.
Of local interest, Reno High graduate Mel Lawrence placed ninth for Washington in the women's 3,000 with a time of 9:14.53. The finish gave Lawrence All-America recognition.
