Rep. Shelley Berkley Stays Mum On Senate Bid
Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Las Vegas, has delayed announcing whether or not she will seek Republican Sen. John Ensign’s seat when he is up for re-election during 2012.
Earlier, she had said she’d make a decision by Valentine’s Day. This evening, however, she said that her decision would come during “late spring, early summer,” on the television program Face to Face with Jon Ralston.
According to Public Policy Polling data released this past week, Berkley would gain 45 percent of the vote to Ensign’s 42 percent should they be the two candidates in next years election.
“It’s an early poll. I took it to heart. I saw what the numbers were,” she said. “Before I make a decision, I have to have a path to victory.”
Berkley currently holds the first congressional district seat that Ensign occupied before his bid for Senate during 2000.
