Sophomore right-hander Dylan Baker struck out 10 and kept the Cisco Wranglers guessing while Dylan Ness knocked in three runs with a seeing-eye double en route to a 9-2 victory in Grand Junction, Colo.

Each of the 22 private and public schools has its own library. Then there are four public libraries (Western Nevada College, city, State Library and Archives, State Law Library). Two of these libraries (State Library and Archives and the State Law Library) are woefully underutilized.
AAUW Capital Branch Awards Scholarships

Mary Longero, graduating from Carson High, plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno to study Nutritional Science, which will put her on the pre-med track.
Chyanne Corley, a senior at Dayton High, will begin her studies at Western Nevada College where she will complete an Associate Degree. She will then continue her education at the University of Portland majoring in Psychology.

Submitted by editor on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 5:23pmThe Western Nevada College softball team got close, but didn’t bring home the wins over the weekend. Two one-run defeats and two squandered leads stunted the Wildcats momentum during an April 20-21 road series at Snow College.
Snow edged the Wildcats 2-1 and 7-6, then completed the four-game sweep with 8-0 and 8-5 victories in Ephraim, Utah.
Solar Day in Carson City

This morning at 11:30 a.m., Officials with Western Nevada College, Black Rock Solar and NV Energy will be celebrating completion of a 200-kilowatt solar project at the WNC college. NV Energy will be presenting a check for $940,000 to the college as part of the company's SolarGenerations program to help offset the cost.

Column: Has City Center been judiciously considered?

Their objective: replace the city library with a +$75 million, three-times-the-size library complex just east of the Nugget Casino. (The ‘official’ $49 million cost curiously excludes 30 years of interest payments.)
Absent from this well-intentioned, but ill-conceived project are viability, necessity and prudence.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. This program will examine the life of the Father of our Country, George Washington. It is the story of a gentleman farmer who was moved to action and service for his country when he was needed most. His life demonstrated the true meaning of the phrase “Duty, Honor, Country.”

First in the 2012 Reno Skeptics Science Cafe' series, presented in association with NOVA ScienceNow.
Physicist Dr. Thomas Herring of Western Nevada College will discuss the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe. This is widely considered the most important scientific discovery of the last quarter of the 20th Century.
The presentation begins at 3:00 pm, is free and is open to the public. Science Cafes' are participatory events, so bring your inquisitive mind and invite your friends.
WNC Concert Choir, DHS Madrigal Singers usher in the Christmas season

The choirs, directed by musician and DHS band director Bill Zabelsky, will feature a myriad of fine music including "The Snow Carol," "All on a Cold Winter's Night," Earlene Rentz's "Agnus Dei," and a Mac Huff arrangement of the popular "Home for Christmas.

Of these, 2,365 are full-time students, a 19.5 percent drop from a year ago.

Phantom of the Opera at Carson Community Center

'Galileo the Astronomer' at WNC

The program begins at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7:30 so visitors can look over the facility. After the discussion of Galileo guests can enjoy star watching through the Society's many fine telescopes and visit the main viewing room with the major telescopes used by astronomers.
The programs at the observatory are free and take place most Saturdays year round.
