CARSON CITY – Gov.-elect Brian Sandoval announced today he plans to appoint Terry Johnson as director of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry in his administration.
Sandoval also announced he will reappoint Teresa Thienhaus as director of the Personnel Department and Dino DiCianno as executive director of the Department of Taxation.
Johnson has 15 years of experience in state and local government administration.
Secretary Of State Wants Private Employers That Win State Contracts To Check Status Of Employees

He will step down Dec. 31.
“Jerry Hafen has proven to be a respected leader in law enforcement in Nevada and I am proud of his accomplishments as DPS Director,” Gibbons said. “Jerry has proven time and again that the safety of the citizens of Nevada is his top priority.

CARSON CITY – A panel of private sector fiscal experts today projected the Nevada state general fund will have about $5.3 billion in tax revenues to spend on government services for the next two years.
The Nevada Economic Forum spent the day making projections for gaming, sales, business and other major tax revenues for use by Gov.-elect Brian Sandoval and the Legislature in crafting a balanced budget for the two years beginning July 1, 2011.

Carson City unemployment drops to 12.5 percent after 300 jobs added
Submitted by editor on Mon, 11/22/2010 - 3:43pmWith 300 jobs added to the labor force, the unemployment rate in Carson City fell to 12.5 percent in October from 13.3 percent in September, according to a report released today by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Carson City area employers added 300 jobs in October, and are down just 500 or 1.7 percent from the same month a year ago, the report states.
"We are delighted. It is always a good sign when new businesses come in such as Kohl's and Big Lots and hire people," said Ronni Hannaman, executive director of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. "The retail community has pulled us out of some of the hiring doldrums."

When the crowd welcomed her with a standing ovation and loud cheers, Angle’s eyes filled with tears. She expressed her gratitude to the small group in a voice filled with emotion.

Nevada GOP Assembly Members Call For Suspension of Prevailing Wage on Public Construction

The caucus is concerned a flawed process resulted in the new prevailing wage rate that took effect Oct. 1. There is a 30-day period to file an objection.

Seven Carson City businesses flagged in alcohol compliance check

The team consisted of two deputies and two underage decoys, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office press statement. The decoys were sent into the businesses using their actual identification and they attempted to purchase alcohol from an employee.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office routinely conducts these checks with grant money it gets from the Nevada Juvenile Programs Justice Office.

Oil Change for a Cause

The ESL In-Home Program is a local community service organization that provides free English lessons at no charge to adults in the community whose native language is not English. It recruits and trains volunteers to teach people English and provides the instructional books and training. The program currently has 115 adults on a waiting list. The funds raised will be used to purchase the books needed to start these adults who are eager to learn to speak, read, and write English.
