Carson City volunteers make bold move, now provide nightly warming shelter for homeless

These volunteer-staffed shelters will rotate monthly, each providing a warm place to sleep for the homeless and their pets.
National Wreaths Across America Day comes to Carson City's Lone Mountain Cemetery

Each December, the national non-profit organization coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as more than 1,200 locations across the U.S., at sea and abroad.

Senator Square: Carson High School vs Douglas was a basketball rivalry with a purpose

The third annual Carson High School vs. Douglas High School Charity Basketball Game lit up CHS Wednesday, Nov. 15 and, as rivalry was put aside, it turned out to be the most successful basketball game fundraiser in CHS history with $10,000 raised for the seven students injured in the Nov. 9 vehicle accident on Kings Canyon Road.

Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. My grandmother raised me from a baby, and in her final years we took care of her through alzheimer's and dementia. She fell and broke her femur 6 weeks ago, and it has been downhill ever since. Although we have been gone from Carson for about 10 years, my grandmother was known by many people when I was a child.

Many amazing opportunities are going on in the CHS school library. The CHS Library is piloting the Nevada Teacher-Librarian Evaluation framework and transitioning from a “library” to a collaborative learning commons.

Carson City School District on tap to receive $1.38 million for Read by Grade 3 program

Lyon County School District is on tap to receive $671,825 in funding, and Douglas County School District, $655,182.

The survey revealed 226 acres of infestation, ranging from minimal to heavy defoliation.
