Tanja Musselman, a native Nevadan, has been taking photographs since she was about 10, excelling during her time at Carson City High School. During the past few years, she has come back to her favored roots and photographs anything that pleases her eye. Every photo is pleasing both visually and spiritually.

Join us this Thursday, May 3, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for an artist reception for Tanja. She will be on hand for a meet and greet, and light refreshments will be served. Her work will be on special display for the month of May.

It’s mid-April and lawns are starting to green up. I forgot to do my fall fertilization in October, and the grass really needs a

We need a break from politics. So, it’s our good fortune this month marks the 50th anniversary of perhaps the most remarkable film ever, producer/director Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Even more than Gone with the Wind, it was the most revolutionary film. It was radically different from everything before it, and it influenced all film after it more than any other work. Yet, nothing made since 1968 is really like it, either.

I’m sad. I just had an old birch tree removed.

After babying the sickly thing for years, I finally gave in and had it cut down.

The tree was here when we moved in 30 years ago and it didn’t look great then. It never really grew.

Why did it die? Bronze birch borers had infested the tree and it never recovered.

DAYTON, Nev. — Community Roots garden center has expanded to offer unique gifts, floral arrangements, and holiday centerpieces and is now located at 209 Dayton Valley Road. We have leaves, lots of leaves. I used to pile all the leaves on my shrub and flower beds. I wanted them to decompose and feed the soil, but with the extreme winds here in Washoe Valley, they continually blew back against the door. We ended up raking and moving the same leaves over and over again. Well, that’s not happening anymore!
