CARSON CITY — Chances are, you have been a target of a scam, or know of someone that has been caught up in a scheme that has resulted in financial loss and the stress of being victimized. There is no shortage of predators looking to make an easy buck off of unsuspecting consumers. And while some fraud attempts are obvious, others can be cleverly disguised and can look like legitimate offers.

National statistics show that someone dies by suicide every 12 minutes in the United States. Those numbers were personalized at Carson High School in Carson City on Wednesday.

Nevada Consumer Affairs is hosting a free Consumer Fraud Prevention Fair in Carson City on March 8 at The Studio at Adams Hub, 111 W. Proctor Street. The fair will provide information and resources in the areas of consumer rights, how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud and one-on-one assistance for consumers that need help resolving complaints involving fraud or a deceptive business practice.

Admission is free and open to all members of the public.

A 42 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 12:39 a.m. in the area of Goldfield Avenue and Saliman Road on suspicion of felony child neglect or endangerment, as well as for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties will have 3 guest speakers for their February breakfast meeting. The meeting is on Thurs February 9th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.

Speakers include Lori Nichols from Foster Care Recruitment, and Sally Hazard from the Fernley office for the Advanced Foster Care Program. They will explain the pressing need for foster homes in the Lyon and Storey County region, and offer ways to help increase the number of foster parents.

A 33 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation and for child endangerment, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy arrest report said.
