NHP: Two Texas Motorists Killed in Lyon County Accident
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/13/2011 - 3:34pmTwo motorists from Texas died in a vehicle accident this morning on Highway 50 Alternate Route eight miles east of Fernley, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Renee J. Upchurch, 53, and Esther Garza, 59, from San Diego, Texas, died as a result of injuries from the accident, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen in a news release.
NHP: One dead in Highway 395 accident in Douglas County
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/08/2011 - 5:27pmOne person died in an accident today three miles south of Gardnerville in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
An early investigation into the accident shows that the driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 was pulling a camper trailer and traveling in the southbound lane of Highway 395. For reasons that remain unclear the Ford, occupied by a 73-year-old male from California, drifted into the northbound travel lane and hit a commercial vehicle driven by a Wisconsin resident, said NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez.
Man taken into custody for causing disturbance on Carson City-bound RTC bus
Submitted by admin on Tue, 05/24/2011 - 9:50amA man was taken off a RTC bus in Washoe Valley this morning by Nevada Highway Patrol after he allegedly caused a disturbance and displayed a knife.
The bus, headed from Reno to Carson City, stopped near the Bellevue Road overpass after a man on board caused a disturbance. NHP officers were called to the scene and took the man into custody. The suspect's name has not been released.
Carson City driver and passenger in Sunday fatal identified

Three taken by Care Flight in Highway 395 accident at Jacks Valley; traffic backed up for miles
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/16/2011 - 4:32pmFive people were injured in an accident that occurred at approximately 1 p.m. at Highway 395 and Jacks Valley Road. Three of those injured were taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Southbound traffic on South Carson Street was backed up all the way to Colorado Street as of 4:15 p.m. The backstreets are also filling up as people search for a way around the blockage caused by the accident.
Manhunt leads to capture near Lake Tahoe beach in Douglas County

Gardnerville man identified in Foothill Road accident
Submitted by editor on Tue, 04/26/2011 - 9:56pmUPDATED: A 56-year-old Gardnerville man has been identified as the victim of an accident Tuesday night on Foothill Road in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Dan Steven Navone died at the scene of the single-vehicle accident, reported at 8:33 p.m. Navone was driving a 1997 Chevy Tahoe in the eastbound lane and apparently overcorrected. The overcorrection caused the him to vault over a barb wire fence, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Carson City father and daughter die in Highway 50 accident
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 04/23/2011 - 8:56amAn 8-year-old girl died overnight after an accident on Highway 50 east of Carson City in Mound House on Friday afternoon, which also claimed the life of her father, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports today.
The girl's identity has not been released. Her father, David James Melendrez, 30, of Carson City died at the scene of the accident. The condition of a young boy, 3, also inside the car with his sister, and his father Melendrez, is not known at this time, said Trooper Dan Lopez.
One dead, two children seriously injured in Highway 50 accident

The accident happened at the intersection of the highway and Kit Kat Lane shortly before 4 this afternoon. Two children were taken by helicopter to Renown Medical Center with life threatening injuries, said NHP Sgt. Chuck Allen.

Carson City authorities investigate accident; motorist reportedly drives through fence and hits four cars
Submitted by editor on Sat, 03/26/2011 - 9:38amUPDATED 3:40PM: Carson City authorities and the Nevada Highway Patrol have responded to an accident in the 3500 block of Highway 50 east that happened at 9:13 this morning where four parked vehicles were hit by a motorist.
The motorist was reportedly in cardiac arrest when police arrived and was transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. NHP is investigating as to whether the man, described as elderly, had a medical condition which may have caused the accident.
NHP: Trooper sustains minor injuries after Carson City accident

At about 8:09 Thursday night a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper drove up to a single vehicle accident in the southbound lane on Highway 395 at the off-ramp to Carson Street. The accident involved a red Oldsmobile driven by a Carson City resident, reports Trooper Dan Lopez.
Several accidents and spinouts reported tonight in Carson City, Lakeview area

A Nevada Highway Patrol officer and a Carson City sheriff's deputy were reportedly involved in two separate accidents, both in the Lakeview area, after being hit by vehicles spinning out on the road, according to dispatchers. Both officers are reportedly OK, with the deputy reportedly suffering some injuries.
NHP responds to 23 Northern Nevada accidents
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/21/2011 - 1:17pmSnow and icy roads made for slick travel today as the Nevada Highway Patrol reports having responded to some 23 weather-related accidents, Trooper Chuck Allen reports.
In a 10-hour span that began just after midnight until about 10 this morning, nearly two dozen accidents were reported on the highways. Nineteen of the crashes were property damage only resulting in damage to the involved vehicles, adjacent roadway fences, and sections of guardrail, with the remaining four events having some type of injuries sustained, Allen said.
Snow brings series of spinouts around Carson City
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/21/2011 - 12:18amSeveral spinouts have been reported tonight and this morning, including a semi-truck blocking traffic near Lakeview and Highway 395 in Carson City and an injury accident reported at about 12:30 this morning in the eastbound lane of Highway 50 at Spooner.
A two-vehicle accident in the eastbound lane of Highway 50 involves a hit and run driver. Authorities are looking for a red PT Cruiser which left the scene. The extent of the injuries are unknown.
UPDATE 4:50PM: Carson City woman killed in accident on Highway 50 east of Dayton

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that at 6:48 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the collision that involved a blue Honda two-door passenger vehicle and a red Ford Ranger pickup truck, said Trooper Michael Edgell. Alcohol may have played a factor in the accident, he said.
UPDATE 5PM: Highway 395 opened at Minden, Muller Lane remains closed

Muller Lane, however, is still closed as NV Energy crews continue their work. There is currently no estimated time of reopening Muller Lane.
Nevada Highway Patrol keeps busy with winter storm

In a six-hour timeframe between 4 am to 10 am, 19 motor vehicle accidents were investigated, 17 slides-offs or spin-outs were reported and the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center fielded 298 phone calls.
Gov. Sandoval Looking To Save Every Penny In Stressed State Budget

CARSON CITY – For Gov. Brian Sandoval, every penny counts as he tries to balance a two-year state budget with drastically reduced tax revenues.
At the Board of Examiners meeting today, Sandoval was able to eliminate a new vehicle purchase worth about $40,000 for the state dignitary protection program by finding a suitable vehicle in the state motor pool to fit the bill.
Silver Springs woman identified as victim in fatal Highway 50 accident east of Dayton
Submitted by editor on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 9:57amA 52-year-old Lyon County woman who died at the scene of an accident on Highway 50 east of Dayton on Friday night has been identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Carole Marie Ernst of Silver Springs died from injuries in the accident that remains under investigation. Two others remain in stable condition at Renown Medical Center in Reno, a NHP spokesman said.
Ernst was a passenger in the two-vehicle accident, which was reported at 10:51 p.m., about 7 miles east of Dayton, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, he added.
The drivers of both vehicles were flown by air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. They are Cindy Ann Leon, 32, from Silver Springs who is listed in stable condition. The second driver, Jessica Lynn Sanchez, is also listed in stable condition.
NHP looks to public after driver leaves the scene of accident on Highway 50 in Lyon County

Troop Dan Lopez reports that NHP is looking for the driver of a yellow Pontiac Aztek who wasn't at the accident site when authorities arrived. The car went down an embankment on Highway 50 east around mile marker 15 about seven miles east of Dayton. The vehicle accident was reported at about 7:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
Woman injured in crash after colliding with Carson City driver

The accident was reported at 8:49 a.m. near Juniper Lane about a third of a mile from Highway 50 on Kingsbury Grade. The woman was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Revelry remained relatively calm until after midnight where deputies responded to a number of fights at various locations around town, said Carson City Patrol Captain Tom Crawford. There were no significant traffic issues or accidents, he added.

Police chase leads to accident; Carson City patrol car hit in pursuit

The chase involved a red Ford Ranger that wouldn't stop for a patrol officer who has apparently suffered injuries to his hands, knee and shoulder after the suspect reportedly rammed into the patrol car head-on, reports Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
