Woman jailed on DUI, other charges after crashing car into motel wall

A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested at 9:22 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Carson Street on a felony charge of parole violation and three misdemeanor charges including driving under suspicion of drugs after she crashed her car into the wall of a motel, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Care Flight called after crash involving a scooter on Highway 50 and North Lompa Lane

Care Flight was called tonight after a crash involving a scooter and possibly one other vehicle near Highway 50 and North Lompa Lane. Carson City fire department, the sheriff's office and the Nevada Highway Patrol were also called to scene.

The female scooter rider was hurt, possibly with leg and arm injuries. The call came into dispatch at 5:40 p.m.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene. She was flown to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Dayton woman identified in Saturday crash on Highway 50 in Carson City

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Dayton woman as the passenger killed in a single vehicle accident Saturday morning in Carson City in the area of Highway 50 and East Nye Lane.

Leatrice Drew, 82, died from injuries at the scene in the rollover accident, reported at around 8:55 a.m. Her husband, Daniel Drew, was also injured. It is unknown if the couple were wearing seat belts properly, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

Several vehicles involved in pileup at Fairview and South Carson Street

UPDATE 6PM: Two people were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries in a four-vehicle accident this afternoon at the intersection of Fairview and South Carson streets in Carson City, law officers said. The Nevada Highway Patrol is handling the investigation and thus far there have been no arrests.

The accident was called into dispatch at 4:21 p.m. and caused significant backup of vehicle traffic in both directions of Carson Street. As of 6 p.m. dispatch reports the northbound lane should be opening soon.

NHP: Elderly woman dies in rollover on Highway 50 and East Nye Lane

An elderly woman died in Saturday morning's fatal single vehicle rollover at Highway 50 East and Nye Lane in Carson City, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said. The driver of the vehicle, an adult man, was taken to the hospital with injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

A Carson City firefighters have responded to an accident near the intersection of Highway 50 East and Nye Lane, where a small white SUV hit a drainage ditch and flipped several times.

Burning Man gates reopen, the party is on at the Playa

UPDATE: As of 6 this morning, the road to Burning Man is now open, according to Burning Man's Twitter feed.

UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol with other agencies assisting is temporarily holding the Burning Man participants from entering this event due to rain that has made it difficult for vehicles to travel into the Playa. NHP is asking that participants do not try and travel out to the Burning Man area until notified that the roads will be open and passable.

Five arrested after Saturday night melee at Fuji Park

A disturbance call during a party at Fuji Park in Carson City led to the arrests Saturday of five people after a near-riot broke out in which officers were punched and kicked by several suspects, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Officers from Douglas County and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called in as backup to control the melee.

Second pedestrian crosswalk operation planned for August 29

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will conduct another pedestrian crosswalk operation on Friday, Aug. 29. These operations are conducted to educate the public in pedestrian and driver safety, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Earlier this month, a similar operation was held where 50 traffic citations were issued along the north and south ends of Carson Street.

The operation, in cooperation with the Nevada Highway Patrol, was done as a way to address pedestrian safety and a growing number of motorists failing to yield as pedestrians cross sidewalks, said McDaniel.

Highway 50 crash near Mound House involves gravel truck

A gravel truck has rolled over in the eastbound lane of Highway 50 near Mound House in Lyon County, according to dispatchers. The accident was reported to the Nevada Highway Patrol at 8:10 p.m.

Lyon County fire and rescue were called to the scene of the crash. Highway 50 at Mound House is at a standstill with traffic being re-direct around the crash site, which is in the area between mile markers 1 and 3.

Carson City fire command at Technology Way ends after suspicious package 'unfounded'

UPDATE: The suspicious package reported in the 4000 block of Technology Way was unfounded, according to dispatch. Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff's Office command at the location was called off at around 2:30 p.m.

A suspicious package was reported at a state health facility at 4190 Technology Way. Carson City Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol have closed the road at the intersection of Arrowhead and Technology, according to dispatch.

Pedestrian struck and killed by pickup, two Douglas sheriff's patrol cars Sunday near Gardnerville

A man standing on Highway 395 in the area of Spring Valley Drive south of Gardnerville was struck and killed by a pickup and then two on-duty Douglas County sheriff's patrol vehicles late Sunday night, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Reported to NHP at 10:45 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the accident involving an unidentified adult male pedestrian being struck by multiple vehicles, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Pedestrian operation along Carson Street results in 50 citations

Fifty traffic citations were issued Friday during a pedestrian crosswalk operation along the north and south ends of Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff's sergeant said.

The operation, in cooperation with the Nevada Highway Patrol, was done as a way to address pedestrian safety and a growing number of motorists failing to yield as pedestrians cross sidewalks, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Last month Carson City had three injury accidents involving pedestrians who were struck by vehicles as they used marked crosswalks.

Woman arrested after Highway 395 chase with NHP that went from Carson City to California

A police chase that began Tuesday morning on Highway 395 and Eastlake in Carson City ended near Bordertown in California north of the state line with the arrest of a Reno woman, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Melanie Marnne-Lawson, 53, was arrested after the vehicle pursuit, which began at around 9:30 a.m. and reached speeds in excess of 85 mph along Highway 395, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The chase began after a hit and run accident happened on Highway 395 and Eastlake in Carson City where a dark green Dodge pickup truck had rear ended another vehicle and fled the scene.

Fernley man dies in motorcycle crash after attempting to elude Churchill County deputy

A 23-year-old Fernley man died in a motorcycle crash Friday night in Fallon after attempting to elude deputies during a chase, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.

Gregory L. Vasquez died at Banner Churchill Community Hospital where he was taken following the crash. The incident was reported at around 9 p.m. According to NHP, a deputy with the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office had seen the Vasquez, operating a black 2004 Honda motorcycle, commit a traffic violation on Harrigan Road. The deputy attempted to make an enforcement stop.

NHP: Motorists should avoid using Highway 50 over Spooner

Due to the Clear Creek fire in Carson City, first responders have been called back out to the scene to monitor the path and speed of the fire and to prepare for any road closures that may happen. Nevada Department of Public Safety is currently on scene to prepare to close specific roads if the fire is not contained as to keep the public safe.

Elderly Gardnerville woman dies in Interstate 580 crash

UPDATE: A Gardnerville woman died Monday in a single vehicle crash in the southbound lane on Interstate 580 two miles north of Bowers Mansion in Washoe County, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Dorothy S. Hunter, 95, died at the scene of the accident, reported at 2:34 p.m. Hunter was driving a 2007 Silver KIA Rio, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Bakersfield man remains in serious condition after bicycle crash involving semi in the Cave Rock tunnel

A 48-year-old Bakersfield, Calif., man remains in serious condition after the bicycle he was riding Thursday was struck in the tunnel at Cave Rock on Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.

Clarence M. Aldridge was flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for his injuries where he remains in serious condition. NHP responded at 9:50 a.m. to the accident, which closed a portion of the highway for several hours, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

Carson City sheriff's arrest log for July 9-10

A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on felony drug charges after deputies searched his Jeep and found Oxycodone pills and methamphetamine inside a safe, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Kenneth Dominici of Carson City, who is listed as unemployed, was stopped at 9:21 p.m. in the area of Market Street east of Retail Drive after officers observed his left brake light not working and a shattered windshield directly in front of the driver's side.

Monday morning gravel spill on I-80 east of Sparks injures 7 in 22-vehicle pileup

Nevada Highway Patrol from the Fernley area were dispatched Monday at around 9 a.m. to the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 just east of Orchard (mile marker 38) for a multiple vehicle accident that was caused when a commercial hauling gravel los its load on the highway blocking all westbound traffic.

26 arrested, 8 for DUI over holiday weekend in Douglas; 18 arrests in South Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports that the 2014, 4th of July celebration in Douglas County went well. The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown Casino Core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved. Motorists were cooperative with the road closures and traffic control required for the fireworks display.

Two-day Highway 50 saturation patrol results in 107 citations; DUI checkpoint continues Friday night

Speeders along Highway 50 between Carson City and Lake Tahoe may have felt the pinch in a two-day saturation patrol by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

In the Wednesday and Thursday stepped up traffic patrol, known as "saturation" 107 citations were issued, with the majority, around 95 percent of those stopped, for speeding violations, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Holiday DUI checkpoint Friday near Lake Tahoe in Douglas County

Several northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will team up and “Joining Forces” this Independence Day as an additional security measure in providing for a safe holiday weekend.

On Friday afternoon and evening, police officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments, deputies from the Washoe, Lyon and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices, and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol will conduct a DUI road block on Highway 50 in Douglas County near Lake Tahoe. Motorists passing through the checkpoint will be briefly greeted by one of the law enforcement officers.

Suspect in Washoe Valley killings recently released from prison, tied to Arizona murder

Washoe County authorities have identified the man suspected of killing two women in Washoe Valley and say he may have also killed an Arizona man days after he was released from prison.

Anthony Gustave Nelson, 40, who had been released from prison in Arizona on June 2 for sexual assault, is the suspect in the deaths of two women, ages 68 and 70, and who led authorities on a chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area on Friday, June 13 in which he died in a shootout with deputies.

Four Carson City deputies on administrative leave following Friday chase, shootout at Sand Mountain

Reno police are now involved in the investigation involving Friday night's chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County in which a possible suspect in a double homicide earlier in Washoe Valley was killed during a shootout with authorities.

UPDATE: 11:10PM: Two women were found dead Friday night in a Washoe Valley home while the suspect was killed in a shootout after a high speed chase on Highway 50 that began in Carson City and ended at Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County. One man was shot and injured and is at Renown Medical Center in Reno, said Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detective Lt. Tom Green. His condition is unknown at this time.

The suspect is believed to have stolen a white Jeep Cherokee, which was registered to the residence, Green said. Inside the garage of the home was a pickup with Arizona license plates. Detectives are trying to determine if the pickup belonged to the suspect, said Green.

UPDATE 9:15 PM: The suspect in a Washoe Valley shooting earlier tonight is dead, confirmed Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong who was at the scene. No officers were hurt. Multiple agencies were involved in the pursuit, which began in Carson City on Highway 50 East and ended at a campground in the Sand Mountain Recreation Area. The campground was evacuated. At least eight Carson City sheriff's officers were involved in the pursuit.

NHP identifies two victims in fatal motorcycle crash Saturday on Geiger Grade

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified two of the victims who died in Saturday's crash involving three motorcycles on Geiger Grade. They are James L. Wood, 68, of Silver Springs and Robert E. Sanders, 60, of Reno. Three others remain hospitalized.

According to NHP Trooper Dave Gibson, officers at around 9 a.m. to the accident scene on State Route 341 at Washoe mile marker 4 approximately 2.5 miles south of the Highway 395 a junction in South Reno.

Two dead, three injured in Saturday motorcycle crash on Geiger Grade

Two people are dead and three are injured after three motorcycles crashed into each other Saturday morning on Geiger Grade, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The crash happened at around 9:15 a.m. on State Route 341, which was shut down for several hours, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

CareFlight called to motorcycle crash north of Carson City

CareFlight was called Friday night to a motorcycle crash with injuries on the I-580 freeway north of Carson City near the Bellevue exit.
Carson City Fire Department and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District were called as first responders.

Carson City motorcycle rider identified in Tuesday freeway crash

A Carson City man has been identified in the Tuesday night motorcycle crash on the Carson City freeway, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Kevin M. Purvis, 33, of Carson City died as a result from injuries in the crash that happened in the southbound lane of the 580 freeway, north of Fifth Street, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
