Emergency crews respond to accident in southbound lane of Carson City freeway at Fairview

UPDATE 5:39PM: Four vehicles were involved in the accident tonight in the southbound lane of I-580 near the Fairview exit. One person was being taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City sheriff's deputies have responded to an injury accident tonight in the southbound lane of I-580 near the Fairview exit. Expect traffic delays in the southbound lane.
At least three people are reportedly injured. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time. The accident was reported at around 5:20 p.m.

Sacramento area man dies in head-on crash Sunday south of Gardnerville

A 23-year-old northern California man died and one person remains in critical condition following a head-on crash Sunday south of Gardnerville on Highway 395, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Highway 50 at Cheyenne Drive in the Stagecoach area was closed Saturday night due to a three vehicle injury crash, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Central Lyon County Fire District and Carson City fire and rescue has been called in for mutual aid. The crash was reported at 10:02 p.m.

Multiple fires calls south of Carson City in Douglas County

UPDATE 10PM: As of 9:35 pm, crews are responding to the fires. Two fires have been reported above Jacks Valley, one above Autumn Hills, one above Job’s Peak Ranch and one near Fay Luther Canyon. The fires are going to be monitored through the night and will be addressed during the daylight hours.
No structures are in danger at this time, said Sgt. Pat Brooks of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Ceremony opens Carson City Motor Officer Training Challenge, downtown festival

Motorcycle patrol riders from Nevada and California were welcomed by dignitaries Saturday for the opening of the 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in downtown Carson City.

The event brings dozens of law enforcement officers to Carson City annually to compete in team riding and obstacle courses along Carson Street. Saturday's events will include 2 man tethered riding, 4 man team relay, slow ride, an obstacle course and last man standing.

Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts 12th Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge

This Friday and Saturday the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. During this event Carson Street from Robinson to Musser will be closed as motor officers train with one another on a Peace Officer Standards in Training approved course.

NHP Reno Office reopens after fume issue resolved

UPDATE TUESDAY: The Reno NHP Office has opened its doors for business as usual.

The main branch of Nevada Highway Patrol in Reno has been closed as of Monday until further notice because of toxic fumes, according to NHP.

Due to electronic malfunctions and off-gassing of server batteries that have emitted toxic fumes, the Reno office is closed, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Vehicle fire at I-580 and Lakeview Road slows northbound commuter traffic

A vehicle fire this morning in the I-580 lane north of Carson City near Lakeview and Duck Hill Road made for slow going Reno-bound traffic just after 7 a.m.

Carson City Fire Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the vehicle fire, which affected at least one lane of traffic. Carson City Sheriff's Office was also called to help direct traffic and allow for emergency vehicles to get through. The fire was fully extinguished at around 7:20 a.m. with one northbound lane moving.
No injuries were were reported. NHP is investigating.

Wrong-way driver involved in Washoe Valley fatal had history of reckless driving, DUI

A Carson City man involved in the early Sunday morning fatal head-on crash in Washoe Valley, who was driving the wrong way on the I-580 freeway with his lights out before plowing into a SUV killing a passenger, was convicted in June 2012 of reckless driving and obstruction and was arrested for DUI in 2007, court records show.

A passenger inside a SUV that was struck head-on by a car going the wrong way on I-580 through Washoe Valley died at the scene early Sunday morning, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Three other vehicles were involved in secondary crashes in which the victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The name of the person who died has not been released. The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. in the northbound lane just south of Bellevue Road in Washoe Valley, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

Motorcyclist dead in crash Saturday night near Zephyr Cove

A motorcycle crash Saturday night involving a car on Highway 50 near Martin Drive in the Zephyr Cove area of Lake Tahoe has left the rider dead, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at around 9 p.m., closing a portion of the roadway. The names of those involved have not been released.

A man accused of deserting the military and sexually assaulting a minor was arrested Monday by a Nevada Highway Patrol sergeant.

David L. Helm was booked into the Washoe County jail awaiting the United States Air Force to take him back to Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County near Belleville, Illinois for his court martial, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

Nevada Special Olympics 'Flame of Hope' goes through Carson City for Reno games at UNR

The running of the torch went through Carson City Friday morning on its way to Reno for the Nevada State Games for Special Olympics held at the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Track and Field events will be at Mackay Stadium and Aquatic events will be at the Lombardi Recreation Center. Come out and cheer on athletes from all over Nevada.

On hand for the torch run through the capital city were Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol troopers.

A male juvenile on a skateboard-scooter was struck by a vehicle in front of the Carson City Fire Station on Stewart Street this afternoon. He sustained minor injuries, cuts and bruises, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The incident was reported at around 12:40 p.m.
Carson City Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol were both called to the scene.

Two people died and two are injured in a head-on crash early Saturday on Interstate 80 involving a vehicle going the wrong way near Sparks Boulevard, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded at 3:15 a.m. to the crash west of Sparks Boulevard, involving a 1990 Mazda pickup driven by an adult male driver along with a male passenger who were traveling the wrong direction, going westbound in the eastbound travel lanes of I-80, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family.

NHP: One seriously injured in Dayton crash Monday

A Fallon man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday on Highway 50 at the intersection of Pine Cone Road in Dayton. The man's wife sustained moderate injuries. Both were taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno via Care Flight, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 3:08PM: Two were taken by Care Flight in an accident this afternoon in the eastbound lane of Highway 50 and Pine Cone Road in Dayton. One suffered serious injuries, while the other had non life-threatening injuries, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dave Gibson.
The vehicles involved were a 1998 Chevy four-door SUV and a 2005 Toyota SUV, said Gibson. One eastbound lane of traffic is open after being closed.

An accident this afternoon has forced the closure of the eastbound lane of Highway 50 at Pine Cone Road in Dayton, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Hundreds show for 2015 Carson City Sheriff's Office Cops and Kids Open House

After 12 years, the annual Carson City Sheriff's Office Cops and Kids open house Saturday was among the biggest yet, with dozens of families and hundreds of children taking part in games, contests and information events well into the late morning and into the afternoon.

The popular community event is aimed at children of all ages and their families as a way introduce public safety agencies, especially law enforcement, to them. The event is part family carnival without the rides, and part educational experience, where music, food, contests, songs and dancing are the orders of the day.

The 12th annual Carson City Sheriff's Office "Cops and Kids" Open House, billed as the "Safest Street Party in Carson City," will be this Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the sheriff's office, 911 East Musser Street.

The free community event features, activities, ID kits for children, food, music, games and more. On hand will be the sheriff's office K9 dogs, motorcycle patrol unit, Special Enforcement Team, stellar squad, a new SWAT unit, representatives from DARE, and the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP identifies victims in Saturday rollover Highway 50 near Silver Springs

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the two 19-year-old men who died in a single vehicle rollover crash that happened Saturday afternoon on Highway 50 near Silver Springs. A third man remains in the hospital with serious injuries.
