Hobart Reservoir, a small, high-mountain reservoir, located at an elevation of 7,600 feet in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2012 fishing season on May 1.
Because of its high elevation and location, this reservoir is normally covered with ice, and surrounded by deep snow drifts, when it opens on May 1.
However, this year is entirely different, ice and snow-wise. It will remain open to fishing through September 30.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife reminds sportsmen that the big game tag application process opened Monday, March 19.
Applications must be received, either by mail or online at internet website www.huntnevada.com, by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 16, to be eligible for the computerized drawing.
Hunters will also have a unique “raffle” opportunity to win premier big game tags this year with the all new Nevada Dream Tags. The tag is similar to other western states’ raffle tags and “hunt of a life time” tags.

If you’re a fisherman or fisherwoman, it’s that time of the year to remind you to purchase your new Nevada 2012-2013 fishing license.
That new fishing license year began on March 01 and it will run through the last day in February, 2013.
As a special tip you would be well advised to purchase that new license ASAP, because if you forget, go fishing and get checked by “The Friendly Old Game Warden,” he isn’t going to be very happy nor will you.

This is a reminder that February 11 is the opening day of the 2012 fishing seasons for the following waters in Lyon County:

• The Fort Churchill Cooling Ponds, near Wabuska.
• Applicable open waters (Bass Pond, Beaver Slough, Crappie Pond, Hinkson Slough, North Pond and the Walker River), all on the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area (MVWMA), near Yerington.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife, along with state and federal agencies, will jointly host a stakeholder update and engagement session on issues related to the conservation and management of Sage-grouse.  
The meeting will be held January 18 at 2 p.m. in Carson City at the Nevada Legislative Building at 401 South Carson Street in room CC1214.
The meeting will be linked via video conference to Elko at Great Basin College located at 1500 College Parkway, High Tech Center, Room 121 and to Las Vegas at the Grant Sawyer Building on 555 East Washington Avenue, Room 4412E.
