Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Gardnerville Retirement Community Will Be Recognized as 'Business of the Year' at Local Chamber Awards Event

The Chateau will be recognized as Business of the Year at the Chamber's Community Recognition Awards event at 7:30 p.m. on November 2 at the Carson Valley Inn, along with the other recipients in their respective categories. The event itself begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and then recognition of the award winners at 7:30 p.m.

Local Senior Living Communities Recognized for Outstanding Care and Achievement in Long-term Care

Mission Senior Living team members were recognized for outstanding care.

During the annual Perry Foundation Endeavor Awards dinner on Aug. 20 at The Grove at South Creek, Carson City-based Mission Senior Living team members were presented four Endeavor Awards for outstanding care and achievement in post-acute and long-term care in Nevada. MSL offers assisted living and memory care services at locations in Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona.

Carson City sober-living facility closes, declares bankruptcy after client's death: Part II

On July 25, Joe Tummarello, a long-term client with Carson City-based sober-living facility Lyfe Recovery, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital. By all accounts, a month before his death he had been in fine health for a man of 76. He dealt with COPD and needed an oxygen tank to breathe in the high altitude of northern Nevada, but a check-up with his doctors during May of 2019 showed he was nowhere near the brink of death.

However, after being relocated to Carson City from Lyfe Recovery’s Reno facility, Joe’s medication was withheld and he was denied medical intervention after a rapid deterioration of his health, which ultimately, it is alleged, led to his death.

Military veterans and seniors to take flight in WWII biplane: Public invited to attend and watch Dream Flights

Pre-selected military veterans and seniors will enjoy the thrill of a Dream Flight in a 1944 Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train military aviators during World War II. The flights are courtesy of Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a Carson City-based nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans nationwide with free Dream Flights. AADF has given more than 3,700 Dream Flights nationwide since 2011.

Carson Valley Senior Living and Memory Care donates $3,750

Carson Valley Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to the Wounded Warrior Project. The amount totaled $3,750.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001.

Memory Care Expansion Begins at Summit Estates Senior Living

Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care is expanding.

Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care, a Mission Senior Living community, is expanding its memory care neighborhood with a 3,200 square-foot addition that includes accommodations for eight additional residents. The $900,000 construction project began on Feb. 28 and is expected to take about six months to complete.

As part of its mission to give back to the community it serves, Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care donated 50 percent of the community’s total move-in fees from November and December 2018 to a local veterans’ organization. Fernley Estates’ Amanda Daig Awarded “Caregiver of the Year”

Amanda Daig cares for residents living in the memory care neighborhood “as if each and every one of them was her grandmother,” says Tara Alto, administrator at Fernley Estates Senior Living and Memory Care in Fernley. The Nevada Caregivers Coalition honored Daig for her outstanding care by selecting her as “Caregiver of the Year” at the 2018 Caregiver Recognition Luncheon last month at the Atlantis Hotel Casino in Reno.
