The 2021 Americanism Essay Contest is underway and available to all children from 7-12th grade. The guidelines have been distributed to Quad County Schools. This year’s theme: “The Bill of Rights and me”. Grand prize is $5,000.

Verne R. Horton of Carson City, Nevada passed away at his residence on October 19, 2020. He was born February 1, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA and is survived by loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Brenda; sons Sean and Scott, daughter Debra, 5 grandchildren and brother, Jim Horton.

Observing Safe Distancing The Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association, Sierra Tahoe Unit No. 137 installed their new officers earlier this month at the Carson City home of the West Coast Regional President, Brenda Horton.

The Sierra-Tahoe Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association is now accepting donations of items for their Annual Rummage Sale, to be held September 26,27, 2020. The proceeds from this event provides funding for the many service projects the organization offers throughout the year.

Fourteen area middle and high school students were awarded cash prizes for their entries into the Fleet Reserve Association Branch (FRA) No. 137 Annual Essay-writing contest on Feb. 29 at a luncheon sponsored by the branch Auxiliary in Carson City, held in their honor.

Sierra Lutheran High School junior Annalynn Mueller tied for first and freshman Riley McHenry placed second in the local round of the Fleet Reserve Association’s (FRA) Americanism Essay Contest.

Sierra Lutheran High School sophomore Annalynn Mueller was honored Monday during a surprise ceremony at the school for taking second in the nation in the Fleet Reserve Association’s (FRA) Americanism Essay Contest.

Northern Nevada’s Ambassador for Wild Horses will be attending this year’s Oodles of Noodles Festival in historic old town Dayton on Saturday, June 1, 2019 courtesy of the Wild Horse Preservation League.

Residents of Richards Crossing Apartments in Carson City gathered to enjoy a variety of homemade soups, breads, salads and desserts presented by the Sierra Tahoe Branch and Auxiliary No. 137 of the Fleet Reserve Association.

This event was held on a snowy and cold Thursday evening, February 7, 2019. It has become an annual event enjoyed by all.

With daytime high temperatures in the low 70s, Sunday could just about be a near-perfect day for outdoor activities in celebration of September's swan song.

Saturday is recognized nationwide as National Ghost Hunting Day as well as Nevada Public Lands Day statewide. Odd as it may seem, the two can be combined at haunts around Nevada.

The Sierra-Tahoe Branch and Unit #137 of the Fleet Reserve Association are proud to announce the 3rd Annual Rummage Sale. Each year the proceeds from the Rummage Sale have enabled them to provide assistance to local veterans, Richards Crossing here in Carson City, the Honor Flight Program, Suicide Prevention Awareness, N Nevada Honor Guard, the Adopt-A-Vet Program and many others.

There are no prices on the items, donations only! Don't miss the amazing donations from Estate and Art Sales, furniture and many other items.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association are excited to announce the Third Annual Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 at Veterans Memorial Hall, located at the corner of Second and Curry streets in downtown Carson City.

The Sierra-Tahoe Branch No. 137 and Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association will hold a pancake breakfast Saturday, June 2 at the Dayton Oodles of Noodle Festival.

Breakfast features pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee for $6 or $10 for two. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.

All of the proceeds will benefit veterans of our local communities, Dayton, Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and the Marine Warfare Base, Pickel Meadows.

Sierra-Tahoe Branch and Unit #137 of the Fleet Reserve Association hosted the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Marine Corp Mountain Training Center, Housing Area, Coleville, CA which was well received by the children and parents.

The Branch & Auxiliary members prepared 600 plastic eggs and stuffed them with candy and small toys. In addition, one of the members made bunnies out of washcloths which the children can use instead of an ice pack (also known as boo-boo bunnies).

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association-Sierra Tahoe Unit No. 137 donated to several worthy organizations this year, among them was the Northern Nevada All Veterans Honor Guard.

The Fleet Reserve Association – Sierra-Tahoe Branch #137 honored the winners of this year’s essay contest. This years topic: "What Does Patriotism Mean To Me."

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association Sierra Tahoe Unit No. 137 hosted a pet parade Thursday, for the residents of Richards Crossing in Carson City that included a pet parade, dinner and a $500 donation from the organization.

UPDATE: The pet parade scheduled for today is a resident-only event. Carson Now had mistakenly said the public could attend and watch. Carson Now regrets any confusion.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Sierra Tahoe Unit No. 137 will be hosting a resident pet parade for the community to enjoy at 4 p.m., Thursday followed by a soup and salad dinner at the Richards Crossing multi-purpose room, Thursday, Feb. 22.

Local Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Branch No. 137 is proud to announce that its past president, Rick Athenour, will be installed as president of the West Coast Region on Jan. 10, 2018 at the Veterans Hall in Carson City.

The Western Nevada College Student Veterans Club hosted a spaghetti feed fundraiser Saturday evening at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Carson City.

With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff.
