For many, the knowledge that their own COVID-19 vaccinations are just around the corner has been hopeful. For others, however, the process of reserving a spot has been more than a little confusing.

Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is underway within the state of Nevada, including our local communities in the north. Those who are first up to receive the vaccine include health care personnel and long term care facilities as a part of the first phase of Tier 1 distribution.

The first batch of initial COVID-19 vaccines has reached Carson City, and was received by Carson Tahoe Health Tuesday morning.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti has appointed David Fogerson as Administrator of the DPS, Division of Emergency Management. Fogerson’s appointment is effective Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

Lynn Doyal, 73, passed away October 14, 2020, with his wife Janis by his side at their home. Lynn was born in Turlock, California on May 8, 1947 to Jack and Elyse Doyal. He lived most of his life in Alpine County, California.

CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College and the University of Nevada Reno Extension are among recent federal grant recipients to receive financial packages to make distance learning upgrades and aid in the expansion of educational services in 14 rural counties.

The CHS, NJROTC Orienteers competed in a weekend long orienteering festival in Anza Borrego State Park, Calif., Jan. 17-18. During the festival, team members competed in three different races over the two days.

A new Basic Life Services program is taking to the streets, Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon said, improving emergency medical services in the community and easing the stress currently placed on existing ambulance units.

Today, Wednesday from 5 to 10 p.m., the Capitol Complex grounds and associated buildings in Carson City will be closed to the public for first responder agencies to participate in a full scale “active shooter” drill.

A new ambulance that would provide Basic Life Services to residents has been approved by the Carson City Board of Supervisors at its July 6 meeting, board minutes said.

A firefighting operations orientation training program was held Friday at the Carson City Training Center, behind Carson City Fire Department (CCFD) Station 52, located at 2400 East College Parkway, and next to the Carson City Municipal Airport.

A strong desire at Western Nevada College to restore nursing classes at the Fallon campus is coming to fruition, thanks to a partnership between Churchill County, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the college.

The partnership with Churchill County provides WNC with the use of a 2,500-square-foot laboratory space located one mile from the Fallon campus.

WNC will be able to provide nursing coursework to students from the Fallon region.
