Carson City woman jailed on felony grand larceny, stolen property charges

A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday in the 500 block of Jeanell Drive on suspicion of felony grand larceny and possession of stolen property after allegedly stealing flooring, tools and a swamp cooler, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City deputies investigate gunshots fired at Dori Way home

UPDATE: A man was arrested Saturday night after he allegedly fired gunshots at a tree from a Dori Way residence, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The man was intoxicated and no one was injured.
The residence has been secured and evidence has been retrieved.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is looking for a 14-year-old girl, considered a runaway. Jocelyn Morales is 5 feet 2 inches, 102 pounds with brown, shaved hair. She was last seen Aug. 19, when she left her Hot Springs Road home and failed to show up for school, said Carson City Sheriff’s Detective Steve Olson.

She was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray leggings and black Vans shoes. Jocelyn has run away in the past, however she did not bring any additional clothing with her. She is entered into the National Crime Information Center as a runaway.


Tyler Turnipseed Named Chief of Law Enforcement for NDOW

Tyler Turnipseed was named chief game warden for the Nevada Department of Wildlife Monday. He is only the fifth Chief Game Warden in NDOW’s history, a position that oversees all game wardens in Nevada.

Game wardens enforce wildlife and boating safety laws across the state, in rural areas and on Nevada’s waterways. Turnipseed is relocating to Reno from Winnemucca where he spent 10 years as the sole game warden for that growing community.

Carson city deputies arrest five on felony charges during weekend patrol

A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on a felony charge of possession of a stolen vehicle after he had been stopped and then took off running from officers before being caught, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

James Dean Anderson was taken into custody at 4:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Continental Drive. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer and driving on a revoked license for DUI.

Carson City deputies make 4 felony, multiple misdemeanor arrests during weekend

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:22 a.m. in the area of North Plaza and Washington streets on a felony burglary warrant issued out of Clark County. Charles Roy Dickey, 59, was taken into custody and was being held without bail awaiting extradition, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City deputies make 23 arrests over holiday weekend

The Carson City Sheriff's Office reports 23 arrests over the holiday weekend period from Friday to Sunday, with a handful being for DUI and drug-related offenses.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the events this weekend at Mills Park generated a huge turnout, especially among families and by and large there were no major fights or crime-related incidents at the park.

Dayton man found guilty of drug, weapons charges after February bust nets stolen guns

A two-day trial led to the conviction Wednesday of a 47-year-old Dayton man on felony drug and weapon charges. Gary Edward Allen stood trial in Third Judicial District Court in Yerington and was found guilty on drug trafficking and four counts of possession of stolen firearms.

The conviction stems from a series of arrests made Feb. 14, 2014 in the hills above Clearview Drive in Carson City where at least 60 stolen guns were recovered. Allen and three others were arrested.

Carson City Sheriff's Office crime report

A 65-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of burglary after attempting to take more than $400 in merchandise from Walmart on Market Street in Carson City.

Darrel Wayne Fisher, a homeless man, also faces lessor charges of petit larceny and obstructing, according to a Carson City sheriff's deputy.

Officers were dispatched to the store at around 8:15 p.m. and met with Loss Prevention who observed the man leaving the store through the west door with a shopping basket of merchandise. He was confronted outside the store and taken inside.

South Lake Tahoe police seek help locating woman considered 'at risk' not seen since June 4

South Lake Tahoe police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing woman. Ruth Anne Scudder, 28, is considered a voluntarily missing adult, last seen two weeks ago.

Scudder has a mild mental handicap in which South Lake Tahoe police consider her to be at risk. Her family told police she left their shared South Lake Tahoe residence two weeks ago, Wednesday, June 4, and has not been seen or heard from since, said South Lake Tahoe Police Detective Jeff Roberson.

Suspect in Washoe Valley killings recently released from prison, tied to Arizona murder

Washoe County authorities have identified the man suspected of killing two women in Washoe Valley and say he may have also killed an Arizona man days after he was released from prison.

Anthony Gustave Nelson, 40, who had been released from prison in Arizona on June 2 for sexual assault, is the suspect in the deaths of two women, ages 68 and 70, and who led authorities on a chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area on Friday, June 13 in which he died in a shootout with deputies.

Investigation continues into Highway 50 chase, double homicide at Washoe Valley home

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to investigate Friday's double homicide in Washoe Valley and the multi-county vehicle chase on Highway 50 that began in Carson City and ended in a shootout with officers in Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County. Two women were found dead inside a Washoe Valley home. One man was injured by the shooter.

Carson City man jailed after allegedly threatening motel clerk with hammers

A 39-year-old man faces felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, after he allegedly swung two hammers at a motel clerk Saturday night in Carson City.

Ryan Schroeder of Carson City also faces felony charges of burglary and probation violation. He's being held without bail on the probation violation charge and $40,000 on the other two charges. He was arrested at 10:59 p.m. at Carson and Ninth streets, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy.

FBI launches campaign, offers reward to stop spike in laser pointer attacks on aircraft

The FBI launched a national campaign Tuesday aimed at stopping people from pointing lasers at aircraft, a federal crime because it presents danger to pilots, passengers and those on the ground. The agency is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of any individual who aims a laser at aircraft.

DARE program to graduate more than 500 Carson City area fifth graders

Thursday was DARE graduation day for around 90 Fremont Elementary School students. The drug prevention program, coordinated by Community Prevention Officer Lisa Davis of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, is active in all elementary schools with classes taught to fifth graders.

In all about 550 fifth grades from around Carson City will graduate from the program this spring, said Davis.

Carson City man jailed on felony domestic battery and home invasion charges

Carson City sheriff's candidates square off on staffing, drugs and policing

With early voting in Nevada's primary election beginning Saturday, Carson City residents learned more about some of the philosophies of candidates in the contested races during Wednesday night's candidate forum hosted by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

The Performance Hall of the BAC was a full house for the forum, with hardly an empty seat found for the first segment where the candidates for sheriff were questioned. The audience was reduced to about half after the sheriff's candidate portion ended.

Carson City man arrested on illegal weapon charges

A 35-year-old Carson City ex-felon was arrested Thursday on suspicion of gross misdemeanor concealing and possessing a dangerous, illegal weapon.

The man was stopped for jaywalking across Long and Carson Street at around 6:30 p.m. He is known for prior felony entanglements with the law involving theft and drugs.

During a pat down for weapons, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team officer observed what appeared to be a bicycle pump hanging out of his right pants pocket while speaking with the man.

Man jailed after allegedly injuring mother when she attempted to call 911 for help

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly tried to take a cell phone away from his mother who was attempting to call 911 for help after he became violent with her.

The Gardnerville man, Blane Allen Frazier, was arrested to the area of Highway 395 and I-580 freeway at 3:58 p.m. He faces a felony charge of preventing a victim from reporting a crime and lesser charges of domestic battery and open container.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to advise the local community that a representative from L.A.W. (Let’s All Work to Fight Drug Abuse) publications will be in the area for the next two weeks selling ad space to produce the latest edition of their magazine which is customized for Carson City.

The ad space purchased is not only used for the purchase of the latest L.A.W. publication, but also pays for materials for crime prevention, teen related material, coloring books, and other safety related materials.
